County Hall ( ga, Áras an Chontae, Sligeach) is a municipal facility at Riverside, Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland. History Originally meetings of Sligo County Council were held at Sligo Courthouse. The county council moved to modern facilities at Riverside in June 1979. The building was substantially re-modeled, to a design by Murray O'Laoire, to create a new council chamber and reception area: the new facilities were opened by Noel Dempsey, Minister for the Environment and Local Government, in June 2001. County Sligo ( , gle, Contae Shligigh) is a county in Ireland. It is located in the Border Region and is part of the province of Connacht. Sligo is the administrative capital and largest town in the county. Sligo County Council is the local authority for the county. The population of the county was 65,535 at the 2016 census. Sligo County Council ( ga, Comhairle Chontae Shligigh) is the authority responsible for local government in County Sligo, Ireland. As a county council, it is governed by the Local Government Act 2001. Sligo Courthouse
Sligo Courthouse is a judicial facility on Teeling Street in Sligo, County Sligo, Ireland. History The courthouse, which was designed by James Rawson Carroll in the French Gothic architecture, French gothic style and built in ashlar stone, was completed in 1878. The design involved an asymmetrical main frontage with ten bays facing Teeling Street; the central section of the three bays was arcaded on the ground floor and contained a six-part mullioned window on the first floor flanked by bartizans; the gable above contained two pairs of mullioned windows and a circular panel. There was a four-stage octagonal tower with a spire in the left hand section. The building was originally used as a facility for dispensing justice but, following the implementation of the Local Government (Ireland) Act 1898, which established county councils in every county, it also became the meeting place for Sligo County Council. Noel Dempsey (born 6 January 1953) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician who served as Minister for Transport from 2007 to 2011, Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources from 2004 to 2007, Minister for Education and Science from 2002 to 2004, Minister for the Environment and Local Government from 1997 to 2002, Minister of State at the Department of Finance from 1993 to 1994, Minister of State at the Department of Defence and Government Chief Whip from 1992 to 1994.
