Countrytime (1970s TV Series)
''Countrytime'' is a Canadian country music television program which aired on CBC Television from 1970 to 1974. Premise This concert-style country music program was hosted by Myrna Lorrie. It was produced by CBHT, CBC Halifax and recorded in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, first at Dartmouth High School (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia), Dartmouth High School's auditorium, then from 1972 at Prince Arthur Junior High School, Prince Andrew High School which had greater capacity. Vic Mullen and house band The Hickorys regularly appeared on the program. Visiting artists included The Allan Sisters, Wilf Carter (musician), Wilf Carter, Blake Emmons, Lynn Jones (musician), Lynn Jones and The Mercey Brothers. Myrna Lorrie
Myrna Lorrie (born Myrna Lorraine Petrunka, August 6, 1940, Cloud Bay, Ontario) is a Canadian country singer/songwriter/musician. She is known as the "first lady of Canadian country music." Lorrie first sang publicly at age 11 on Fort William radio station CKPR on a program called ''School of the Air'', whose host, Jack Masters, gave Lorrie her own radio show, ''Harmony Trails,'' when she was just 12. At age 14 she wrote and recorded the song "Are You Mine" with Buddy DeVal, which was released on Abbott Records and reached number 6 on the ''Billboard'' Chart. The song became a hit in both Canada and the United States and was recorded by several artists; it peaked at No. 2 on the ''Billboard'' and ''Cashbox'' charts in early 1956. Lynn Jones (musician)
Lynn Morris Jones (born January 1, 1953) is an American former professional baseball player, coach, and manager. He played as an outfielder in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals. He later was a coach for the Royals, Florida Marlins, and Boston Red Sox, and served as a manager in the minor leagues. Biography Jones attended Thiel College, in western Pennsylvania, where he played for the Tomcats, setting the school's single-season batting record, hitting .440 in 1974. A three-sport athlete, Jones also played basketball and soccer in college. In 1987, he was inducted into the college's athletic Hall of Fame. He joined the Theta Phi chapter of Alpha Chi Rho Fraternity while at Thiel. Queen's University at Kingston, commonly known as Queen's University or simply Queen's, is a public research university in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. ''Countrytime'' is a Canadian agricultural news and information television program which aired on CBC Television from 1960 to 1966. Premise This current affairs program was produced as separate regional versions in Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver. The first half of each episode featured 15 minutes of national agricultural news, then the remainder of the program contained regional news and information. For example, Ontario and Quebec viewers saw Earl Cox with a gardening segment, while Atlantic Canadians saw Gordon Warren on their broadcasts. The Mercey Brothers
The Mercey Brothers were a Canadian country music group active from 1957 to 1989. The brothers were seven-time Juno Award winners for "The Top Country Group" and were inducted into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame. Early life All three Mercey brothers were born in Hanover, a small town south of Owen Sound, Ontario. Larry Mercey, the eldest of three, was born on December 12, 1939; Ray was born on November 21, 1940, and Lloyd, the youngest, was born on December 12, 1945. Blake Emmons
Blake Emmons is a Canadian country music singer and entertainer. Emmons hosted the 1974 CTV series '' Funny Farm'', the Canadian answer to ''Hee Haw''. He also co-hosted the Nashville syndicated music show ''The Country Place'' with Jim Ed Brown for Show Biz Inc. in the 1970s. In 1985, Emmons appeared on the American game show ''The Joker's Wild'' as a contestant. He later hosted the game show ''Chain Reaction'' on September 29, 1986, which aired on Global Television Network in Canada and on USA Network in the United States. Wilfred Arthur Charles Carter (December 18, 1904 – December 5, 1996), professionally known as Wilf Carter in his native Canada and also as Montana Slim in the United States, was a Canadian Country and Western singer, songwriter, guitarist, and yodeller.
