''Counterfeit EP'' is the first solo recording by Martin L. Gore, the primary songwriter for the band Depeche Mode. Background Released in 1989, ''Counterfeit'' is a six-song EP of cover songs, hence the name, implying that the songs were not written by Gore. ''Counterfeit'' was recorded during a band hiatus after recording and touring for the album ''Music for the Masses''; bandmate Alan Wilder also recorded and released ''Hydrology'' under the pseudonym Recoil during this period. Even though the release has the letters "e.p." in its title, Mute Records issued it an album catalogue number (STUMM67). Martin Gore
Martin Lee Gore (born 23 July 1961) is an English musician and songwriter. He is one of the founding members of the electronic music band Depeche Mode and is the band's main songwriter. He is the band's guitarist and keyboardist, and occasionally provides lead vocals. Gore possesses a tenor singing voice which contrasts with lead vocalist Dave Gahan's dramatic baritone. He is also known for his flamboyant and (sometimes) androgynous stage persona. Winston Tong (born 1951 in San Francisco, California) is an actor, playwright, visual artist, puppeteer, and singer-songwriter. Kevin John Bacon (born 30 March 1959 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England) is an English musician and record producer best known for his work with Jonathan Quarmby under the moniker Bacon & Quarmby, as well as his tenure as bassist for the band the Comsat Angels. The Comsat Angels
The Comsat Angels were an English post-punk band from Sheffield, England, initially active from 1978 to 1995. Their music has been described as "abstract pop songs with sparse instrumentation, many of which were bleak and filled with some form of heartache". They have been credited as being an influence on later post-punk revival bands such as Blacklist, Bell Hollow, Editors and Interpol.
