''Counterfeit e.p.'' is the first solo recording by Martin L. Gore, the primary songwriter for the band Depeche Mode. Background Released in 1989, ''Counterfeit'' is a six-song Extended play, E.P. of Cover version, cover songs, hence the name, implying that the songs were not written by Gore. ''Counterfeit'' was recorded during a band hiatus after recording and touring for the album ''Music for the Masses''; bandmate Alan Wilder also recorded and released ''Hydrology (album), Hydrology'' under the pseudonym Recoil (band), Recoil during this period. Even though the release has the letters "e.p." in its title, Mute Records issued it an album catalogue number (STUMM67). The German word for "mute" is '' stumm ''. Tuxedomoon
Tuxedomoon is an experimental music, experimental, post-punk, New wave music, new wave band from San Francisco, California, United States. The band formed in the late 1970s at the beginning of the punk rock movement. Pulling influence from punk and electronic music, the group, originally consisting of Steven Brown (born Steven Allan Brown on August 23, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois) and Blaine L. Reininger, used electronic violins, guitars, screaming vocals and synthesizers to develop a unique "cabaret no-wave" sound. Bassist Peter Principle (Peter Dachert, 1954–2017) joined the band and in 1979 they released the single "No Tears", which remains a post-punk cult classic. That year they signed to Ralph Records and released their first album, ''Half-Mute''. Eventually, Reininger left the group, and Tuxedomoon relocated to Europe, signing to Crammed Discs and releasing ''Holy Wars (album), Holy Wars'' in 1985. Ronald David Mael (born August 12, 1945) is an American musician, songwriter, composer and record producer. He is the keyboard player and principal songwriter in the band Sparks which he founded with vocalist, occasional songwriter and younger brother Russell Mael in 1971. Mael is known for his quirky and idiosyncratic approach to songwriting, his intricate and rhythmic keyboard playing style and for his deadpan and low key, scowling demeanour onstage often remaining motionless over his keyboard in sharp contrast to Russell's animated and hyperactive frontman antics. Sparks is an American pop and rock duo formed by brothers Ron (keyboards) and Russell Mael (vocals) in Los Angeles. "Never Turn Your Back on Mother Earth" is a song by the American rock group Sparks. The song was recorded by the group's mid-1970s glam line-up. It was released in late 1974 as the first single from the group's fourth album, ''Propaganda''. ''Plagiarism'' re-recording In 1997, Sparks recorded a new version of the song with the producer Tony Visconti. This introduced strings and a choir. Kevin John Bacon (born 30 March 1959 in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England) is an English musician and record producer best known for his work with Jonathan Quarmby under the moniker Bacon & Quarmby, as well as his tenure as bassist for the band the Comsat Angels. After leaving the Comsat Angels, Kevin Bacon produced for many other artists, notably Finley Quaye, Longpigs and Ziggy Marley. A native of Alfreton, Derbyshire, Bacon's introduction to the record industry came in 1978 when he helped found the Comsat Angels. The Comsat Angels
The Comsat Angels were an English post-punk band (music), band from Sheffield, England, initially active from 1978 to 1995. Their music has been described as "abstract pop songs with sparse instrumentation, many of which were bleak and filled with some form of heartache". They have been credited as being an influence on later post-punk revival bands such as Blacklist (band), Blacklist, Bell Hollow, Editors (band), Editors and Interpol (band), Interpol. Vincent Gerard "Vini" Reilly (born 4 August 1953) is an English musician and leader of the post-punk group the Durutti Column. He is known for his distinctively clean, fluid guitar style, which stood out from his punk-era contemporaries in its incorporation of jazz, folk, and classical elements.
