''Counter-Strike'' (''CS'') is a series of multiplayer tactical first-person shooter video games in which teams of terrorists battle to perpetrate an act of terror (bombing, hostage-taking, assassination) while counter-terrorists try to prevent it (bomb defusal, hostage rescue, escort mission). The series began on Windows in 1999 with the release of the first game, '' Counter-Strike''. It was initially released as a modification ("mod") for '' Half-Life'' that was designed by Minh "Gooseman" Le and Jess "Cliffe" Cliffe before the rights to the mod's intellectual property were acquired by Valve, the developers of ''Half-Life'', who then turned ''Counter-Strike'' into a retail product released in 2000. Jess A. Cliffe (born June 27, 1981) is a video game designer who co-created the '' Half-Life'' mod '' Counter-Strike'' with Minh Le and started the ''Counter-Strike'' series. He is also the "voice of ''Counter-Strike''" via the radio commands, the voiceline "Counter-Terrorists Win!" and sound effects. He has worked on maps for '' Half-Life: Deathmatch''. Minh "Gooseman" Le
Minh Le ( Vietnamese: Lê Minh), also known by his online nickname Gooseman, is a Vietnamese Canadian video game programmer who co-created the '' Half-Life'' mod '' Counter-Strike'' with Jess Cliffe in 1999 and started the ''Counter-Strike'' series. He was later employed by Valve, the developers of ''Half-Life'', and worked for 8 years in Korea on the multiplayer first-person shooter '' Tactical Intervention''. ''Half-Life'' is a 1998 first-person shooter (FPS) game developed by Valve and published by Sierra Studios for Windows. It was Valve's debut product and the first game in the ''Half-Life'' series.
