Gary Coull
Gary Coull (April 14, 1954 – October 26, 2006) was a co-founder and chairman of CLSA, a brokerage house specializing in Asia-Pacific stock markets. Born in Canada, Coull graduated in 1976 from the University of British Columbia with a bachelor of arts. From 1977 to 1983, he working as a business journalist for the South China Morning Post and the Far Eastern Economic Review. CLSA In 1983, Coull left journalism and started a small China investment and trading company. Several years later, he joined a Hong Kong brokerage firm, Winfull Laing et Cruickshank. The French bank, Crédit Lyonnais subsequently took over Laing, bought out Winfull, and created the platform for what became CLSA. In 2003, Crédit Lyonnais merged with Crédit Agricole. Coull and a fellow journalist, Australian Jim Walker (d. 2004), co-founded CLSA in 1986. George Coull
Dr George Coull FRSE (1862? – 10 January 1934) was a Scottish pharmaceutical chemist. He served as Managing Director of Raimes Clark & Co, parent company to Scotland's largest independent chemist, Lindsay & Gilmour. Life He was born in Edinburgh in 1862. He attended Daniel Stewart's College where he excelled. He was then apprenticed to a pharmacist, taking extra lessons and exams in pharmacology at Surgeons' Hall. For most of his life he lived on the first floor of the impressive Georgian villa at the end of Smiths Place, off Leith Walk in Edinburgh, above the offices of Raimes, Clark & Co for whom he acted as managing director. The University of Edinburgh awarded him a (DSc) in 1899. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1929. His proposers were George Barger, Alfred Archibald Boon, Alexander Lauder, and Leonard Dobbin. He served on the Board of Examiners for the training of pharmacists in Scotland. Coull Castle
Coull Castle was a 13th-century castle to the south of Coull, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.Coventry, Martin (2001). ''The Castles of Scotland''. Musselburgh: Goblinshead. p. 175. History The castle occupies an important and commanding position along the northern approach to Aboyne. Built by the Durwards in the 13th century and was the main stronghold of the barony of O’Neill. The last mention of the intact castle was in a charter dated 17 February 1554 from the Queen Regent, Mary I, which grants "the lands of Cowle with their castle and mill, in the sheriffdom of Aberdeen." The castle was ruined by the first half of the 17th century according to the collections of Sir James Balfour. The castle ruins were excavated by the landowner Dr Marshall Mackenzie after his purchase of the land in 1912 and the excavations were later continued by W. Douglas Simpson in 1922. Coull Quartet
The Coull Quartet is an England, English string quartet that was founded at the Royal Academy of Music, London in 1974 under the guidance of renowned quartet leader, Sidney Griller. They were appointed Quartet-in-Residence by the University of Warwick in 1977. The Quartet, which includes two of its founder members, has performed and broadcast extensively throughout the UK, and has made tours of Western Europe, the Americas, Australia, China, India and the Far East. Since the mid-1980s the Coull Quartet has made over 30 recordings featuring a wide selection of the repertoire from the complete Mendelssohn and Schubert quartets to 20th century and contemporary British chamber music.
