Cottingham Phoenix
Cottingham Phoenix are a rugby league team based in Cottingham, East Riding of Yorkshire. They play in the Yorkshire Premier division of the Rugby League Conference. History ''Hull Phoenix'' joined the Yorkshire division of the Rugby League Conference in 2004. A year later, they stepped up to the newly created Central Premier with their A team taking their place in the Yorkshire division. Hull Phoenix moved to Cottingham for the 2006 summer season and became the open age summer team of Cottingham Tigers RLFC under the name ''Cottingham Phoenix''. The Premier divisions underwent a restructure and Cottingham found themselves playing in the North Premier, Phoenix were successful in finishing top of the league but lost narrowly in extra time in the Grand final against East Lancashire Lions. Phoenix (mythology)
The phoenix is an immortal bird associated with Greek mythology (with analogs in many cultures) that cyclically regenerates or is otherwise born again. Associated with the sun, a phoenix obtains new life by rising from the ashes of its predecessor. Some legends say it dies in a show of flames and combustion, others that it simply dies and decomposes before being born again. Rugby League Conference
The Rugby League Conference (RLC) (also known as the Co-operative Rugby League Conference as a result of sponsorship from The Co-operative Group), was a series of regionally based divisions of amateur rugby league teams spread throughout England, Scotland and Wales. The RLC was founded as the 10-team Southern Conference League in 1997, with teams from the southern midlands and the south east, but has subsequently, rebranded and expanded both geographically and numerically to include around 90 teams stretched across almost the whole of Great Britain from Aberdeen in northern Scotland down to Plymouth on the south coast of England. The aim of the RLC was initially to provide regular fixtures for new clubs based outside the 'heartland' of rugby league, although as the playing standards increased, it also accepted teams from the 'heartlands'. Cottingham is a large village and civil parishes in England, civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, England with average affluence. It lies north-west of the centre of Kingston upon Hull, and south-east of Beverley on the eastern edge of the Yorkshire Wolds. East Lancashire Lions is a rugby league club from Darwen in Lancashire. They currently play in the Rugby League Conference National Division. The Lions play their home games at the Anchor Ground, home of Darwen FC. History :A side known as ''East Lancashire'' joined the North West Counties League division 5 for the 1981-2 season. East Lancashire finished bottom and resigned from the league. They failed to fulfil 16 of their fixtures and lost the other 14. They are not connected to the side known as East Lancashire Lions.
