Cosumnes Oaks High School (pronounced ''kuh-sum-ness''), or COHS, is a preparatory four-year public high school in Elk Grove, California. It is the youngest high school of the Elk Grove Unified School District, opening in 2008 with the Class of 2011 being its first class of graduating seniors. In 2012 Cosumnes Oaks was officially accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The school is named after Cosumnes River and the many oak trees in the area, creating a strong link between the school and the Cosumnes River Preserve. The school serves students in the south-central end of Elk Grove and several communities near Cosumnes River Preserve and Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge. Elk Grove is a city in Sacramento County, California, located just south of the state capital of Sacramento. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade– Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cosumnes River
The Cosumnes River is a river in northern California in the United States. It rises on the western slope of the Sierra Nevada and flows approximately into the Central Valley, emptying into the Mokelumne River in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. The Cosumnes River Preserve is a nature preserve of over located 20 miles (30 km) south of Sacramento, in the US state of California. The preserve protects a Central Valley remnant that once contained one of the largest expanses of oak tree savanna, riparian oak forest and wetland habitat in North America. Agricultural development has changed the landscape from groves of oaks and tule marshes to productive farmlands. Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge
The Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge, located south of Sacramento, California, lies within the Sacramento-San Joaquin delta, the destination of thousands of migrating waterfowl, shorebirds, and other water birds.
