Costas Georgiou
Costas Georgiou (; 1951 – 10 July 1976), also known by his alias Colonel Callan, was a Cyprus, Cypriot-born British mercenary executed in Angola following the Luanda Trial for activities during the civil war phase of the Angolan War of Independence. Early life Georgiou was born in Cyprus in 1951, when the island was a British Crown colony. His family moved to London in 1963. British military career Georgiou joined the British Army and served, at first with distinction, in 1st Battalion, Parachute Regiment in Northern Ireland. He was credited as being one of the best marksmanship, marksmen in the unit. He later became involved with other paratroopers in an armed robbery on a Royal Mail, Post Office on 18 February 1972. Georgiou was eventually sentenced to five years in prison. National Liberation Front Of Angola
The National Front for the Liberation of Angola ( pt, Frente Nacional de Libertação de Angola; abbreviated FNLA) is a political party and former militant organisation that fought for Angolan independence from Portugal in the war of independence, under the leadership of Holden Roberto. Founded in 1954 as the União dos Povos do Norte de Angola guerrilla movement, it was known after 1959 as the União dos Povos de Angola (UPA) guerrilla movement, and from 1961 as the FNLA guerilla movement. Ahead of the first multiparty elections in 1992, the FNLA was reorganized as a political party. The FNLA received 2.4% of the votes and had five Members of Parliament elected. John Banks (mercenary Recruiter)
John Edward Banks, (1945 – ?) was a British soldier, a mercenary recruiter, and the founder of the Security Advisory Services. Early life John Banks was born in Aldershot in 1945 into the family of an Army Medical Corps officer serving in the Airborne Forces. John spent his childhood years in Camberley not far away from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. As a child he attended service schools in Egypt and Cyprus. His military career started in 1962 when he was only 17 years old. After his initial training Banks served in the "Pathfinder" unit of the Second Battalion of the Parachute Regiment. In four years, he was transferred to the Second Battalion’s Special Patrol Company, a unit trained to penetrate behind the enemy lines. Banks took part in the hostilities in Malaysia, Yemen and Oman. Álvaro Holden Roberto (January 12, 1923 – August 2, 2007) was an Angolan politician who founded and led the National Liberation Front of Angola (FNLA) from 1962 to 1999. His memoirs are unfinished. Early life Roberto, son of Garcia Diasiwa Roberto and Joana Lala Nekaka, and a descendant of the Royal Family of the Kingdom of Kongo, Kongo Kingdom, was born in São Salvador, Angola, São Salvador in the far north of Portuguese Angola, Angola. Charlie Christodoulou
Charles Christodoulou (c.1951 – 14 February 1976) was a British soldier in the Parachute Regiment who later served as a foreign mercenary during the Angolan War of Independence of the 1970s. Known as 'Shotgun Charlie', he was involved in the murder of at least 167 people during that conflict. Early life and career Christodoulou was born in Birmingham in the United Kingdom of Greek Cypriot parents and was believed to be a cousin of Costas Georgiou, known later as 'Colonel Callan', the leader of the British mercenaries in Angola.
