Costache or Kostake Aristia (; born Constantin Chiriacos Aristia; el, Κωνσταντίνος Κυριάκος Αριστίας, ''Konstantinos Kyriakos Aristias''; transitional Cyrillic: Коⲛстантiⲛꙋ Aрiстia, ''Constantinŭ Aristia''; 1800 – 18 April 1880) was a Wallachian-born poet, actor and translator, also noted for his activities as a soldier, schoolteacher, and philanthropist. A member of the Greek colony, his adolescence and early youth coincided with the peak of Hellenization in both Danubian Principalities. He first appeared on stage at ''Cișmeaua Roșie'' in Bucharest, and became a protege of Lady Rallou. She is claimed to have sponsored his voyage to France, where Aristia became an imitator of François-Joseph Talma. Costache Caragiale (; 29 March 1815 – 13 February 1877) was a Romanian actor and theatre manager who had an important role in the development of the Romanian theatre. Born in Bucharest, Wallachia, he made his stage debut in 1835 and, in 1838, organized a theatre company in Iaşi, Moldavia, which became part of the first Romanian National Theatre. He worked in many Romanian regional theatres, especially in Iaşi, Craiova and Botoşani, and encouraged the usage of plays by Romanian dramatists of the day, especially those of Vasile Alecsandri and Constantin Negruzzi. Between 1852 and 1855, Costache Caragiale was the first director of the National Theatre of Bucharest. Costache Negri (May 14, 1812 – September 28, 1876) was a Moldavian, later Romanian writer, politician, and revolutionary. Born in Iași, he was the son of ''vistiernic'' (treasurer) Petrache Negre. The scion of a boyar family, he was educated at home, and then at the French boarding schools of Mouton in Iași and Repey in Odesa. In 1832 he was sent to pursue his studies in Austria, Germany, France, and Italy. During his stay in Paris he befriended Vasile Alecsandri, Ion Ghica, and Nicolae Bălcescu. Upon returning home, he established in 1841 a literary cenacle at his estate in Mânjina, which became a center of political activism of unionists from Moldavia and Wallachia. Tamara Virgi Costache (born 23 July 1970) is an Olympic and former world record-holding freestyle swimmer from Romania. She swam for Romania at the 1988 Olympics. Costache may be considered the earliest pioneer of specialised 50 freestyle sprinting for women. She first set the world record for the 50 metre freestyle when competing at the Romanian National Championships in Bucharest on 16 July 1986. Her time was 25.50 seconds, set in a preliminary heat. Costache competed at the 1986 World Aquatics Championships, winning the gold medal in the 50 metre freestyle on 23 August in a world record time of 25.28 seconds. As of February 2018, this time is still the Romanian Record in the event. Her achievements at the 1988 Summer Olympics two years later were less successful.
