Aubrey Cosens
Aubrey Cosens VC (21 May 1921 – 26 February 1945) was a Canadian posthumous recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. Military service Aubrey Cosens was born in Latchford, Ontario on May 21, 1921, the only son to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Cosens. Shortly afterwards his family moved near Porquis Junction and this is where Cosens remained until he left school at 17 and went to work as a section hand on the Temiskaming and Northern Ontario Railway. A year after taking this job, the Second World War broke out and Aubrey attempted to join the RCAF and was rejected because he was considered too young. In 1940 he joined The Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders of Canada as private and later transferred to The Queen's Own Rifles of Canada as a Corporal. Barbara Anne Cosens is an American Distinguished University professor at the University of Idaho College of Law. Early life and education Cosens was born and raised in Sierra Nevada, California, and earned her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Davis. She would later earn her Master's degree from the University of Washington and her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of Law. Career In 2002, Cosens joined the College of Behavioral and Social Sciences at San Francisco State University (SFSU) as an assistant professor of environmental studies. She spent two years at SFSU before joining the University of Idaho College of Law as a full-time permanent faculty member. By the 2009–2010 academic term, she received tenure from the university. A few years later, she accepted a visiting scholar position at the University of New Mexico School of Law to focus on water resources management. Dora Cosens
Doris Morley Cosens (27 April 1894 – 5 October 1945; née Fletcher), often referred to as Dora Cosens, was a British architect, particularly known for her Modernist house, 9 Wilberforce Road in Cambridge.Powers, pp. 25, 94–95 Along with Mary Crowley and Elisabeth Scott, she was among the earliest women architects to work in Britain during the modern era. Biography She was born Doris Morley Fletcher in 1894 in Marylebone, London, to Arthur Morley Fletcher. In 1916, she married the engineer, Charles Richard (Dick) Garrod Cosens (1893–1956). George Cosens
Rev. George Cosens (1805–1881) is the "first reported West Indian minister to hold a pastorate in Britain." He originated from Jamaica, and lived most of his life in Britain having moved to London to study and joining the Primitive Methodists in his late teens. After working as a Primitive Methodist preacher, he joined the Baptists and from 1837 served as a minister in various Baptist churches. He died in working retirement in 1881. George Cosens married twice, Mary Burnet, 1830, and being widowed, Betsy Dancer in 1841. He is buried in the cemetery of Brierley Hill Baptist Church. Keith Cosens
Keith Alan Cosens (July 7, 1932 – April 27, 1990) was a Canadian politician in Manitoba. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1977 to 1981, and served as a cabinet minister in the government of Sterling Lyon. Born in Teulon, Manitoba, Cosens was raised on the family farm near Argyle, was educated at Brant-Argyle School, Stonewall Collegiate and the University of Manitoba, taught school in Kelwood, Wawanesa and Rosser, and was vice-principal of Stonewall Collegiate in Stonewall, Manitoba before entering politics. In 1952, he married Marie Smith. He was elected to the Manitoba legislature in the 1977 election, defeating New Democrat George Schreyer by 720 votes in the riding of Gimli. Cosens & Co Ltd was a British excursion steamer and marine engineering company based in Weymouth. History The company was founded in 1848 by Joseph Cosens and incorporated in 1876. It operated a fleet of paddle steamers on excursions along the south coast of England and on cross channel trips to Cherbourg and Alderney. It also operated a number of launches offering "trips round the bay" as well as tugs serving ships using Weymouth harbour. Up to the end of World War I the company held the Admiralty contract to operate liberty boats for naval ships at Portland. The engineering side of the company was a major ship repair and marine engineering facility. The company also had a cold storage and ice-making facility adjacent to the port.
