Corsica National Football Team
The Corsica national football team ( co, Squadra Corsa di Balò) is the unofficial football team for the island of Corsica, France. It is not affiliated with FIFA or UEFA. The selection has played against national teams thirteen times. In the past, the selection has also played against club teams, as in 1963 against Stade Reims, or Inter Milan in 2012. The match against Congo was organized by the CFA (Corsica Football Association). In order to be called up for the team, a player had to fulfil two conditions: having at least one parent or grandparent from Corsica and being a professional player or being part of a professional club. Venue of the team The venue of the selection is not fixed : Corsica has played in both of the major cities of the island, Bastia and Ajaccio. It has been said that from now on, the matches will be played alternatively in Bastia (Stade Armand Cesari) and in Ajaccio (either Stade Ange Casanova or Stade François Coty). Stade François Coty
The Stade François Coty is a football stadium in the Corsican city of Ajaccio, France, and the home of AC Ajaccio. Its capacity is 10,660. The stadium was inaugurated on 1 December 1969 under the name Parc des Sports de l'ACA. A crowd of 14,421 was in attendance to see AC Ajaccio defeat SC Bastia in the Corsican derby. Known informally as Timizzolu, the stadium was renovated in 2002 and renamed after François Coty (1874–1934), a businessman and far-right politician from Ajaccio. Since 2007, the stadium has undergone substantial improvements to enable it to host Ligue 1 matches. Yannick Cahuzac
Yannick Cahuzac (born 18 January 1985) is a French former professional footballer and who is current assistant manager of Ligue 1 club Lens who played as a defensive midfielder. In his career, he played for Bastia, Toulouse, and Lens. He is the grandson of international footballer and coach Pierre Cahuzac. Career In July 2017, Cahuzac joined Toulouse from Bastia on a fee transfer, agreeing to a two-year contract. In May 2019, it was reported that Cahuzac would be moving to Lens in the summer having agreed a two-year contract. Due to his Toulouse contract running out he would sign on a free transfer. On 10 May 2022, Cahuzac announced his retirement at the end of the 2021–22 season. Johan Etienne Anthony Cavalli (born 12 September 1981) is a French former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Club career Early career Whilst at Lorient Cavalli played as a substitute in the 2002 Coupe de France Final in which they beat SC Bastia. Gilles Cioni (born 14 June 1984) is a French professional footballer who played as a defender. He spent almost his entire career with hometown club Bastia which he also captained. At international level, he represented the Corsica national team. Career In September 2017, Cioni agreed a contract extension with hometown club SC Bastia which had played in Ligue 1 in the 2016–17 season but dropped to the fifth-tier Championnat National 3 after filing bankruptcy. Gary Coulibaly (born 30 March 1986) is a French former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He was born in Corsica in France and is of Malian descent. He previously represented France at under-20 level, but has represented Corsica at senior level. Career Born in Bastia, Coulibaly began his career with SC Bastia and made 35 league appearances in four seasons with the club, one of them being in Ligue 1.
