Corowa-Rutherglen Football Club
The Corowa-Rutherglen Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Kangaroos'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the town of Corowa in New South Wales. Corowa-Rutherglen's football and netball squads formerly played in the Ovens & Murray Football League. The club is notable for producing many VFL / AFL football players over many years, including John Longmire. History The club was formed in 1979 when the Corowa Spiders and the Rutherglen Redlegs merged to become the "Corowa-Rutherglen Roos". Additionally surplus players formed the Rutherglen-Corowa Cats in 1979 and competed in the Coreen & District Football League for 13 seasons, before moving to the Ovens & King Football League for 11 seasons. Today the club is known as the Rutherglen Cats, dropping "Corowa" from their name in 2002, and have competed in the Tallangatta & District Football League since 2004. Ovens & Murray Football League
The Ovens and Murray Football Netball League (O&MFNL) is an Australian rules football and netball competition containing ten clubs based in north-eastern Victoria, the southern Riverina region of New South Wales and the Ovens and Murray area. The name comes from the Ovens River, the river in the part of north-eastern Victoria covered by the league, and the Murray River, which separates Victoria and New South Wales. The league features three grades in the Australian rules football competition, with these being First-Grade, Reserve-Grade and Under 18s. In the netball competition, there are four grades, with these being A-Grade, B-Grade, C-Grade and Under 16s. Currently a home and away season consisting of eighteen rounds is played. The best five teams then play off according to the McIntyre System, culminating in the O&MFNL Grand Final, which from 1995 to 2017 was held at the Lavington Sports Ground in the Albury suburb of Hamilton Valley. 2001 AFL Draft
The 2001 AFL draft consisted of a state draft, a body draft, a pre-season draft and a trade period. The AFL draft is the annual draft of players by Australian rules football teams that participate in the main competition of that sport, the Australian Football League (AFL). In 2001 there were 83 picks to be drafted between 16 teams in the national draft. The Fremantle Dockers originally received the first pick in the national draft after finishing on the bottom of the ladder in the 2001 AFL season but they traded it to Hawthorn for Trent Croad. Robert Campbell (Australian Rules Footballer)
Robert "Robbie" Campbell (born 2 June 1982) is an Australian rules footballer who played for the Hawthorn Football Club and Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). At 200 cm tall, he made his AFL debut with the Hawthorn Hawks in 2002. After appearing sporadically in his first few seasons, Campbell starred in 2006 with 230 disposals and 300 hit outs, playing in each of the club's 22 games. In 2007, he became the Hawks' number one ruckman after Peter Everitt's departure to the Sydney Swans. He played in every game for the season, including two finals appearances. David Teague (born 5 May 1981) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for North Melbourne and Carlton in the Australian Football League and was the senior coach of the Carlton Football Club, from 2019 to 2021. Aaron Henneman (born 13 December 1980) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Essendon in the Australian Football League (AFL). Henneman joined YVMDFL club Silvan in 2007 after being delisted by Essendon the year before. Joining ex Essendon teammates at Silvan including Gary Moorcroft, Ben Haynes and Marc Bullen. Henneman played a starring role at CHB in the Cats premiership the same year. Ryan Houlihan
Ryan Houlihan (born 21 January 1982) is a former Australian rules footballer who played 12 seasons and 201 games for the Carlton Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL) from 2000 to 2011. Background Ryan is the third of four brothers who were all drafted to AFL clubs: Damian Houlihan, Adam Houlihan and Josh Houlihan, from Wahgunyah on the Murray River, in northern Victoria. Ben Mathews (born 29 November 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Sydney Swans in the Australian Football League (AFL). Mathews originally played with Hopefield Buraja FC in the Coreen & District Football League, then was recruited from the Corowa Rutherglen of New South Wales, via the Murray Bushrangers. Adam L. Houlihan (born 6 April 1978) is a former Australian rules footballer for the Geelong Football Club and the Richmond Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He is one of four brothers who were all drafted to Australian Football League clubs, alongside Damian, Ryan and Josh, from Wahgunyah on the Murray River, in northern Victoria.
