Naval Base Coronado (NBC) is a consolidated Navy installation encompassing eight military facilities stretching from San Clemente Island, located seventy miles west of San Diego, California, in Los Angeles County, California, to the Mountain Warfare Training Camp Michael Monsoor and Camp Morena, located sixty miles east of San Diego. Organization In 1997, Naval Base Coronado was created, incorporating eight separate Naval installations under one Commanding Officer. San Diego Bay is a natural harbor and deepwater port located in San Diego County, California near the U.S.–Mexico border. No-fly Zone
A no-fly zone, also known as a no-flight zone (NFZ), or air exclusion zone (AEZ), is a territory or area established by a military power over which certain aircraft are not permitted to fly. Naval Special Warfare Center
The Phil Bucklew Naval Special Warfare Center (NSWC, also known as "The Center") is a component command of the United States Naval Special Warfare Command, United States Navy. It is sited within Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, California. The NSWC runs much of the Naval Special Warfare (NSW) training. La Posta Mountain Warfare Training Facility
Mountain Warfare Training Camp Michael Monsoor (formerly known as La Posta Mountain Warfare Training Facility) in San Diego County, California is a training facility used by the Naval Special Warfare Center. At elevation, it is east of San Diego near the unincorporated community of Campo. History The site has a firing range, an administration building, barracks, and a length mountain endurance training course. The navy has operated on the plus acres since the early 1960s, and is seeking to set aside an additional of federal Bureau of Land Management property for the facility. Survival, Evasion, Resistance And Escape
Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape (SERE) is a training program, best known by its military acronym, that prepares U.S. military personnel, U.S. Department of Defense civilians, and private military contractors to survive and "return with honor" in survival scenarios. The curriculum includes survival skills, evading capture, application of the military code of conduct, and techniques for escape from captivity. Formally established by the U.S. Air Force at the end of World War II and the start of the Cold War, it was extended to the Navy and United States Marine Corps and consolidated within the Air Force during the Korean War with greater focus on "resistance training."
