Natural Horn
The natural horn is a musical instrument that is the predecessor to the modern-day (French) horn (differentiated by its lack of valves). Throughout the seventeenth and eighteenth century the natural horn evolved as a separation from the trumpet by widening the bell and lengthening the tubes. It consists of a mouthpiece, long coiled tubing, and a large flared bell. This instrument was used extensively until the emergence of the valved horn in the early 19th century. Hand stopping technique The natural horn has several gaps in its harmonic range. To play chromatically, in addition to crooking the instrument into the right key, two additional techniques are required: ''bending'' and ''hand-stopping''. Bending a note is achieved by modifying the embouchure to raise or lower the pitch fractionally, and compensates for the slightly out-of-pitch " wolf tones" which all brass instruments have. Irene Camber-Corno
Irene Camber or Irene Camber-Corno (born 12 February 1926) is an Italian fencer and Olympic champion in foil competition. Biography Camber was born in Trieste, Italy on 12 February 1926. She began to be interested in fencing at eight years-old in Trieste. Her involvement in fencing was not planned, but random. Instead of entering the hall where she used to practice gymnastics, she mistakenly entered the fencing hall. She had four appearances at Olympic Games: London (1948), Helsinki (1952), Rome (1960) and Tokyo (1964). After graduating with a bachelor of science degree in industrial chemistry, she made her debut at the London Games in 1948. She was defeated in the semi-finals. Four years later at the Helsinki Games, she faced two-fold Olympic champion (at Berlin and London Games) 45-year-old Hungarian Ilona Elek. Camber won the match by 4–3. Corno (artist)
Joanne Corneau (22 November 1952 – 21 December 2016), better known by the pseudonym Corno, was a Canadian artist from the Saguenay region of Quebec. She achieved international recognition for her large-scale paintings of women's faces and bodies in a "post-pop" style. Early life Corno was born in Chicoutimi, Canada, and enjoyed drawing and sketching from a young age. She moved to Montreal in the early 1970s and studied for a Bachelor's degree of Fine Arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Career Corno held her first exhibition at the Clarence Gagnon Gallery in Montreal and also exhibited in Toronto, Calgary, Ottawa and Vancouver. In 1986, she presented her work at the Quebec Pavilion at Expo 86 in Vancouver. During this period she was represented by the Yves Laroche Gallery in Montreal. A cornicello (), cornetto (; ), corno (Italian for "horn"), or corno portafortuna (literally "horn that brings luck" in Italian) is an Italian amulet or talisman worn to protect against the evil eye (or ''malocchio'' in Italian) and bad luck in general, and, historically, to promote fertility and virility. In Neapolitan, it is called or variants thereof. The amulet is also sometimes referred to as the Italian horn. Origins and styles A cornicello is a twisted horn-shaped charm often made of gold, silver, plastic, bone, terracotta, or red coral. Cornicelli are thought to be modeled after an eland horn, to represent fertility, virility, and strength. The shape and colour of the red cornicelli are reminiscent of a chili pepper.
