Cornelius J. Doyle
Cornelius James Doyle (December 6, 1871 – April 29, 1938) was an American lawyer and politician. Born in Carlinville, Illinois, Doyle moved to Greenfield, Illinois with his family and went to the Greenfield public schools. He learned to become a tailor and worked as a clerk in a clothing store in Carlinville. Doyle then studied law and was admitted to the Illinois bar. He served as Greenfield city attorney and was involved with the Republican Party. He served as the Illinois Parole Commissioner and as secretary of the Illinois Board of Arbitration. In 1903, Doyle served as the superintendent of the Illinois Building of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. In 1912, Doyle was appointed Illinois Secretary of State when the incumbent James A. Rose died in office. He was defeated for re-election in the November 1912 general election. Carlinville, Illinois
Carlinville is a city and the county seat of Macoupin County, Illinois, United States. It is also the home of Blackburn College, a small college affiliated with the Presbyterian church, and the former home of Prairie Farms Dairy. As of the 2020 census, the population of Carlinville was 5,710. History Carlinville is named for Thomas Carlin, 7th Governor of Illinois, who as a member of the state legislature was instrumental in creating Macoupin County. Louis Lincoln Emmerson (December 27, 1863 – February 4, 1941) was an American Republican politician and the twenty-seventh governor of Illinois. Family Louis was born on December 27, 1863, in Albion, Illinois, and is the son of Jesse and Fannie Emerson. In 1887 Louis married his wife, Ann Mathews, who was the daughter of Thomas Matthews.
