Cork City Women's Football Club ( ga, Cumann Peile Chathair Chorcaí na mBan) is an Irish women's association football team, based in Cork city. Originally playing at Bishopstown Stadium, from the 2021 Women's National League season, the club were playing home games at Turners Cross Stadium. The club kit is the same as that of Cork City FC, as is the emblem, which is itself a variant of the Cork coat of arms. The club was founded in 2011 as Cork Women's F.C., to take its place as one of seven teams in Ireland's inaugural Women's National League. In 2014 they affiliated with FORAS, the supporters' trust behind Cork City FC, and relaunched as Cork City Women's FC. The club claimed their first national silverware by winning the FAI Women's Cup in 2017, and merged "fully" with Cork City FC ahead of the 2018 season. Turners Cross (stadium)
Turners Cross is an all-seater football stadium located in and synonymous with the district of Turners Cross in Cork, Ireland. It is owned by the Munster Football Association (MFA), and is used by the MFA and by League of Ireland side Cork City. It was the first all-seated, all-covered stadium in Ireland following redevelopment in 2009, and it is currently one out of only two, the other being the Aviva Stadium. Use Cork City play their home games in the stadium. The ground also sees a large volume of matches every year under the auspices of both the MFA and the Football Association of Ireland (FAI), including local, regional, national, and international matches and cup finals at schoolboy, junior, intermediate, senior, and underage international level. Denise O'Sullivan (born 4 February 1994) is an Irish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for the American club North Carolina Courage of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) and the Republic of Ireland national team which she has represented 80 times. She started her career with the Irish club Wilton United and joined the newly-formed Cork City at the outset of the Women's National League (WNL) in 2011. 2015–16 Women's National League (Ireland)
The 2015–16 Women's National League was the fifth season of the Women's National League. Two new clubs joined the league before the start of the season, restoring the number of teams in the league to eight. Kilkenny United were formed as expansion team while Raheny United's senior women's team merged with Shelbourne Ladies. This effectively saw Shelbourne Ladies takeover Raheny United's place in the WNL. The season also saw the introduction of the WNL Shield. Wexford Youths and Shelbourne Ladies finished the season as the league's two strongest teams. In the league itself, the two teams finished level on points before Wexford Youths retained the title after a play-off. Wexford Youths also completed a treble, having already won both the FAI Women's Cup and WNL Shield. Shelbourne Ladies were also runners up in the WNL Shield before going onto win the WNL Cup. The 2014–15 Women's National League was the fourth season of the Women's National League. On 20 August 2014, at the Aviva Stadium, Continental Tyres were unveiled as the new sponsor of both the Women's National League and FAI Women's Cup. Before the season started there were two name changes following takeovers and/or mergers. Cork Women's F.C. were taken over by FORAS/Cork City F.C. and as a result were renamed Cork City W.F.C. It was also announced that DLR Waves and UCD's senior women's team would join forces and become known as UCD Waves. Shamrock Rovers withdrew from the league, leaving seven teams to play each other. Wexford Youths won the league title, finishing two points clear of second placed UCD Waves. UCD Waves also finished as runners-up in the 2014 FAI Women's Cup, losing 2–1 after extra time in the final to Raheny United. The 2013–14 Women's National League was the third season of the Women's National League. This was the final season the league was sponsored by Bus Éireann. In June 2013 the Football Association of Ireland announced Galway W.F.C. as an expansion team for the upcoming season. Raheny United won their second WNL title and also win the 2013 FAI Women's Cup. Meanwhile, Wexford Youths won their first trophy, the 2014 WNL Cup, with a 3–0 over Castlebar Celtic. Julie-Ann Russell of Peamount United was named 2013–14 Player of the Season. The WNL received international publicity in October 2013 when Stephanie Roche scored an acclaimed goal for Peamount United against Wexford Youths which became popular on YouTube. Sylvia Gee (born 30 November 1977) is a former Republic of Ireland women's international footballer who has spent the majority of her career playing in various women's association football leagues in the Republic of Ireland and the United States. Between 2003 and 2007, Gee was a prominent member and captain of the successful UCD team which qualified for the UEFA Women's Cup on three successive occasions. The 2012–13 Women's National League was the second season of the Women's National League. This season was again sponsored by Bus Éireann. The six founding members of the league – Peamount United, Castlebar Celtic, Cork Women's F.C., Raheny United, Shamrock Rovers and Wexford Youths – were joined for the second season by DLR Waves. Raheny United won their first of two WNL titles. They also complete a league and cup double after already winning the 2012 FAI Women's Cup.
