Cork City (also known as Cork Borough) was a constituency represented in the Irish House of Commons to 1800. Boundaries and boundary changes This constituency was the Parliamentary borough of Cork in County Cork. It comprised the whole of the County of the City of Cork. Cork had the status of a county of itself, although it remained connected with County Cork for certain purposes. ''A Topographical Directory of Ireland'', published in 1837, describes the area covered. This seems to be the same area used, for the Parliament of Ireland constituency, in previous centuries. Whigs (British Political Party)
The Whigs were a political faction and then a political party in the Parliaments of England, Scotland, Ireland, Great Britain and the United Kingdom. Between the 1680s and the 1850s, the Whigs contested power with their rivals, the Tories. The Whigs merged into the new Liberal Party with the Peelites and Radicals in the 1850s, and other Whigs left the Liberal Party in 1886 to form the Liberal Unionist Party, which merged into the Liberals' rival, the modern day Conservative Party, in 1912. William Ponsonby, 1st Baron Ponsonby
William Brabazon Ponsonby, 1st Baron Ponsonby (of Imokilly), PC (Ire) (15 September 17445 November 1806) was a leading Irish Whig politician, being a member of the Irish House of Commons, and, after 1800, of the United Kingdom parliament. Ponsonby was the son of the Hon. John Ponsonby, the Speaker of the Irish House of Commons and Lady Elizabeth Cavendish, daughter of the 3rd Duke of Devonshire. He was invested as a Privy Counsellor of Ireland in 1784. He served as Joint Postmaster-General of Ireland (1784–1789). Political career Ponsonby was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. He represented Cork City between 1764 and 1776 and thereafter Bandonbridge between 1776 and 1783. Sir John Redmond Freke, 3rd Baronet (died 13 April 1764) was a baronet in the Baronetage of Great Britain and a member of parliament in the Irish House of Commons. He was the younger son of Sir Ralph Freke, 1st Baronet, by his wife Elizabeth, the daughter of Sir John Meade, 1st Baronet. Sir Matthew Deane, 4th Baronet (c. 1706 – 10 June 1751) was an Irish baronet and politician. He was the eldest son of Sir Matthew Deane, 3rd Baronet and his wife Jane Sharpe, only daughter of Reverend William Sharpe. In 1747, he succeeded his father as baronet. Deane sat in the Irish House of Commons for Cork City from 1739 until his death in 1751. He married Salisbury Davis, daughter of Robert Davis. LokiTorrent was a BitTorrent indexing service operated by Edward Webber (''"Lowkee"'') from 2004 until 2005. The domain name was originally registered on 24 February 2004. In the beginning, LokiTorrent had been one of the least trafficked torrent sites, with operations like Suprnova.org leading the pack at the time. However, LokiTorrent gained international attention when it refused to comply with cease and desist orders sent out on 14 December 2004 by the MPAA. These same orders had caused dozens of other much larger sites, including SuprNova, to disappear overnight. Webber began a drive to raise money to fight the MPAA in court, and over a couple of months, had accrued in excess of $40,000 in sheer member donations. The site peaked at 680,000 active registered members, and dealt with 1.8 million hits per day. St John Brodrick (died 1728)
The Honourable St John Brodrick (c. 1685 – 21 February 1728), was an Anglo-Irish politician who sat in the Irish House of Commons from 1709 to 1728 and in the British House of Commons from 1721 to 1727. Brodrick was a son of Alan Brodrick, 1st Viscount Midleton and brother of Alan Brodrick, 2nd Viscount Midleton; his mother was his father's first wife, Catherine Barry, daughter of Redmond Barry of Rathcormac. He predeceased his father by some months. Broderick represented Castlemartyr in the Irish House of Commons from 1709 to 1713, the City of Cork from 1713 to 1715 and then the County of Cork from 1715 to his death. On 9 June 1724, he was appointed to the Irish Privy Council.
