Cork Athletic F.C.
Cork Athletic Football Club was a former Irish football club based in Cork. They played in the League of Ireland between 1948 and 1957. They were the successor club of Cork United. When United quit the league in October 1948, Cork Athletic was immediately formed to take their place. Athletic won the league in 1950 and only lost the cup final against Transport after two replays. The following year they won a league and FAI Cup double after beating Shelbourne in a replay to win the cup. In 1953 they won the first all- Cork FAI Cup final, beating Evergreen United 2–1. Athletic also began the Cork tradition of fielding veteran English League players by recruiting Sunderland legend Raich Carter. The club eventually folded in 1957, due to financial problems. They were replaced in the League by Cork Hibernians.

Mardyke (UCC)
The Mardyke, also referred as the Mardyke Sports Ground, is the sport and fitness facilities used by sports team representing University College Cork, the general student body, and members of the public. It is based in the Cork district of Mardyke. UCC acquired the grounds in 1911, and rented the main pitch to rugby, soccer, hockey and hurling clubs in the city for a 15% cut of the gate receipts. Outdoors, there are floodlit grass and all-weather pitches, used for soccer, rugby, Gaelic games, and hockey. Kayakers train in the adjacent North channel of the River Lee. There is a tartan track for athletics, where the Cork City Sports are held annually. The most notable performance came in the hammer throw on 3 July 1984, when Yuriy Sedykh and Sergey Litvinov broke the world record six times in one evening. Owen Madden (footballer)
Owen Madden (5 December 1916 – 20 January 1991) was an Irish footballer who played as a forward in the League of Ireland and the English Football League. Madden was a dual international who played for both Ireland teams – the FAI XI and the IFA XI. Club career Madden first came to prominence as a goalscorer with Cork and in 1936 he helped the club reach the final of the FAI Cup. However shortly afterwards he became embroiled in controversy when it emerged that, together with Jack O'Reilly, he had signed for Norwich City before playing in the cup final on 19 April. When Cork F.C., who received no fee, protested over the moves, both Madden and O'Reilly were suspended by the FAI for three years. Despite this Madden failed to establish himself at either Norwich or Birmingham. Ned Courtney (footballer)
Ned Courtney was an Irish footballer who played Gaelic football for Cork GAA and association football for Cork United, Cork Athletic and Ireland. Courtney, who played as a goalkeeper in both codes, was originally from Dublin and was a captain in the Irish Army. He won a Munster Senior Football Championship with Cork GAA before going onto win three League of Ireland titles. Between 1950–51 and 1952–53 he also played in three successive FAI Cup finals. Playing career Cork GAA In 1943 Courtney was a member of the Cork GAA team that won the Munster Senior Football Championship. On 6 June 1943, in the semi-final stage, Cork drew 2–3 to 0–9 with Kerry at the Cork Athletic Grounds. On 11 July, in the replay at the same venue, Cork beat Kerry 1–5 to 1–4. Noel Cantwell
Noel Euchuria Cornelius Cantwell (28 February 1932 – 8 September 2005) was an Irish footballer player and sometime cricketer. Club career Cantwell was born in Cork, Ireland, and was educated at the Roman Catholic Presentation Brothers College in Cork. Cantwell played as a full-back for Western Rovers, Cork Athletic, West Ham United and Manchester United. While at West Ham, he featured in the London XI side that competed in the 1955–58 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final on 1 May 1958. He captained the Hammers to winning the Division Two championship in the 1957–58 season and thereby leading the club into the top flight for the first time since 1932. In November 1960, Cantwell joined Manchester United for £29,500 which at the time was a record for a full back. Florrie Burke
Florrie Burke (7 August 1918 – 24 April 1995) was an Irish footballer who played for Cork United, Cork Athletic and Evergreen United. He also played for both Ireland and the League of Ireland XI. Burke was raised in the Ballintemple, Cork and was a talented junior hurler, playing with Blackrock. During the Second World War, Burke played for a very successful Cork United team. His United teammates included, among others, Jack O'Reilly, Bill Hayes, Owen Madden, Jackie O'Driscoll, Frank O'Farrell and Tommy Moroney. Burke helped United win several League of Ireland titles and in 1942 they won an FAI Cup / League double. On 17 October 1951, while playing for Cork Athletic, he also helped Ireland to a 3-2 win against West Germany at Dalymount Park.
