Corinth, Van Zandt County, Texas
Corinth is a ghost town in Van Zandt County, Texas, United States. Corinth was located on Farm to Market Road 1255 northeast of Canton, Texas, Canton. From 1848 to 1873, Corinth was a stagecoach stop between Marshall, Texas, Marshall and Dallas, Texas, Dallas. The first school opened in 1849. In 1888, a post office opened in the community under the name Hatton. After the post office closed in 1906, the community was renamed Corinth. Corinth had a school from 1890 to 1940. In 1940, the school was consolidated with the Grand Saline Independent School District. By 1981, all that remained of the community was its church, its cemetery, and some scattered homes. Van Zandt County, Texas
Van Zandt County is a county located in the U.S. state of Texas, in the northeastern part of the state. As of the 2020 census, its population was 59,541. Its county seat is Canton. The county is named for Isaac Van Zandt (1813–1847), a member of the Congress of the Republic of Texas. History Van Zandt County is commonly known as the Free State of Van Zandt. Canton, Texas
Canton is a city in and the county seat of Van Zandt County in East Texas, United States. It is located about 40 miles west of Tyler. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of 4,229. The city sustained severe damage on April 29, 2017, from several tornadoes, and two years later from another tornado that struck downtown on May 29, 2019, both of which occurred just before First Monday Trade Days, the popular flea market extravaganza which draws thousands to the city each month.
