Corey Millen
Corey Eugene Millen (born March 30, 1964) is an American former professional ice hockey center. He played in the National Hockey League between 1990 and 1997 with five teams. Internationally he played for the American national team at several tournaments, including the 1984 and 1988 Winter Olympics. In 2020, he was named the head coach of the St. Cloud Norsemen in the North American Hockey League. Career NHL Millen played for the University of Minnesota after being selected by the New York Rangers in the 1982 NHL Entry Draft. Millen started his National Hockey League career with the Rangers in 1990 where he appeared in four games. He also played for the Los Angeles Kings, New Jersey Devils, Dallas Stars and Calgary Flames. He was sent to the Calgary Flames along with Jarome Iginla in the trade which sent Joe Nieuwendyk to the Dallas Stars. He left the NHL after the 1997 season. The Johnstown Tomahawks are a Tier II junior ice hockey team in the North American Hockey League's East Division. EHC Visp is a Swiss professional ice hockey team based in Visp and competing in the Swiss League (SL). The club was founded in 1939 and became Swiss champion in 1962. Visp has also won the league title in NLB three times; 1960, 2011 and 2014. Their home arena is the 5,150-seat Lonza Arena. The Swiss League is the second tier of the main professional ice hockey league in Switzerland, behind the National League. The winners of the league each season plays a best-of-seven series against the bottom team of the NL, and if they win, they are promoted, while the National League team is relegated to the Swiss League. 1996–97 NHL Season
The 1996–97 NHL season was the 80th regular season of the National Hockey League. The Stanley Cup winners were the Detroit Red Wings, who swept the Philadelphia Flyers in four games and won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 42 years. The regular season saw a decline in scoring and rise in the number of shutouts to an all-time record of 127. This trend continued into the playoffs, during which an all-time record of 18 shutouts were recorded. Only two players, Mario Lemieux and Teemu Selanne, reached the 100-point plateau during the regular season (compared with 12 who reached the plateau in 1995–96). Many factors, including fewer power plays, more calls of the skate-in-the-crease rule, fewer shots on goal and more injuries to star players than the season before, contributed to the reduction in scoring and skyrocketing in shutouts. Joe Nieuwendyk
Joseph Nieuwendyk ( ; born September 10, 1966) is a Canadian former National Hockey League (NHL) player. He was a second round selection of the Calgary Flames, 27th overall, at the 1985 NHL Entry Draft and played 20 seasons for the Flames, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, and Florida Panthers. He is one of only 11 players in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup with three or more different teams, winning titles with Calgary in 1989, Dallas in 1999 and New Jersey in 2003. A two-time Olympian, Nieuwendyk won a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2002 winter games.
