Cordova Bay Records is an independent record label in Victoria, British Columbia. The label operates in conjunction with Cordova Bay Music Publishing under the parent company Cordova Bay Entertainment Group. The company was founded by Michael Burke in 1999 and touts itself as an artist-oriented label. History Cordova Bay Entertainment Group was founded by Michael Burke, who grew up in the Toronto suburb of Don Mills during the 1960s. It was there that he attended classes with the likes of writer and musician Paul Quarrington, renowned double bassists Roberto Occhipinti and Joel Quarrington, classical guitarist Norbert Kraft and pop singer Dan Hill. Later, Burke performed the role of manager for many of his talented friends, setting up gigs and acquiring studio time. Burke also happened to be a tech wiz. Fierce Panda Records
Fierce Panda Records is a London-based independent record label, with its first release in February 1994. It also produced a small number of releases that year by now famous artists such as Ash, The Bluetones, Baby Bird and Supergrass. Fierce Panda is also credited with releases by Acres of Lions, Air Traffic, Art Brut, The Blackout, Boy Kill Boy, Coldplay, Death Cab for Cutie, Desperate Journalist, Embrace, Goldheart Assembly, Kenickie, Seafood, Keane, Placebo, The Polyphonic Spree and Shitdisco. The Tourist Company (or Tourist Company) is a Canadian, Vancouver-based alternative rock band formed in 2013 by Taylor Swindells. History Tourist Company formed after meeting at summer camp in 2013. After that they teamed up with singer-songwriter Jordan Klassen to produce and record their EP ''Space Race'', which they released in May 2014. The Velveteins
The Velveteins is an indie rock band from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The group consists of core songwriting members Spencer Morphy (guitar, singer) and Addison Hiller (percussion, singer). History Originating as a solo project by Morphy, The Velveteins group was formed in 2014 after Morphy's extended trip in Australia, during which he "fell in love with the psychedelic music and lush beaches of Australia". The band's self-produced first effort, ''Fresh Claws EP,'' was released in 2014 and marked the first collaborative work by Morphy and Hiller. Capdown is an English punk rock band from Milton Keynes. Originally known as Soap, their songs have political themes as alluded to by their name, which is short for Capitalist Downfall. Mixing ska, punk, hardcore, dub, drum and bass, and reggae, Capdown built a reputation around their independent releases and numerous tours. Career In May 2000, the Household Name Records released Capdown's debut album '' Civil Disobedients''. The album featured hardcore, but also mixed in ska and dub. Shitdisco were a dance-punk band from Glasgow, Scotland. They formed in 2003 while studying at the Glasgow School of Art, consisting of Joel Stone (bass, guitar, vocals), Joe Reeves (bass, guitar, vocals), Jan Lee (keyboards, backing vocals) and Darren Cullen (drums). The band's first single "Disco Blood"/"I Know Kung Fu" was released in December 2005. Signed to record label Fierce Panda, their debut album ''Kingdom of Fear'' was released on 16 April 2007. Placebo (band)
Placebo are a British rock band, formed in London in 1994 by vocalist–guitarist Brian Molko and bassist–guitarist Stefan Olsdal. Drummer Robert Schultzberg joined in late 1994, but left in 1996 shortly after the release of the band's eponymous debut album due to conflicts with Molko, and was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt. Following the release of a demo, a split single, and their eponymous debut album, Placebo gained exposure in 1997 after the single " Nancy Boy" became popular in the UK, a song notorious at the time for its gender-bending content. The Polyphonic Spree is an American choral rock band from Dallas, Texas that was formed in 2000 by singer/songwriter Tim DeLaughter. The band's pop and rock songs are augmented by a large vocal choir, and instruments such as flute, trumpet, french horn, trombone, violin, viola, cello, percussion, piano, guitars, bass, drums, electronic keyboards, and EWI.
