Corbeau News Centrafrique is a French-language news site from the Central African Republic. The website was created in June 2014 by Alain Nzilo, a journalist from the Central African Republic. The site employs multiple reporters in different provinces of the country. The site has been noted for its anti-Russian sentiment and it has multiple times reported about the presence and activities of Russian mercenaries in the Central African Republic. The Russian embassy in the country has labelled the station as "anti-Russian propaganda". As of February 2021 the site has been blocked by the Central African government. The site owner has been reportedly contacted by Russian paramilitaries with the aim of changing his editorial policies. |
Bangui
Bangui () (or Bangî in Sango, formerly written Bangi in English) is the capital and largest city of the Central African Republic. It was established as a French outpost in 1889 and named after its location on the northern bank of the Ubangi River (french: Oubangui); the Ubangi itself was named from the Bobangi word for the "rapids" located beside the settlement, which marked the end of navigable water north from Brazzaville. The majority of the population of the Central African Republic lives in the western parts of the country, in Bangui and the surrounding area. The city forms an autonomous commune (''commune autonome'') of the Central African Republic which is surrounded by the Ombella-M'Poko prefecture. With an area of , the commune is the smallest high-level administrative division in the country, but the highest in terms of population. it had an estimated population of 889,231. Reporters Without Borders (RWB; french: Reporters sans frontières; RSF) is an international non-profit and non-governmental organization with the stated aim of safeguarding the right to freedom of information. It describes its advocacy as founded on the belief that everyone requires access to the news and information, in line with Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that recognizes the right to receive and share information regardless of frontiers, along with other international rights charters. RSF has consultative status at the United Nations, UNESCO, the Council of Europe, and the International Organisation of the Francophonie.
