Coral Bernadine Pollard
Coral Bernadine Pollard (born Roberts circa 1940) is a Barbadian artist. She is known for her paintings, murals and also for her work as an art tutor for Her Majesty's Prison Dodds, a prison in Barbados. Her studio is located in Saint James. Life Coral Bernadine Pollard was born in Bridgetown, Barbados. She attended the Christ Church Girls' Foundation School and began painting there. Her teacher, Evelyn Heath, encouraged her to pursue art, however, her father was not supportive of the idea. When Pollard was 17, she began working at Mount Gay Distilleries. She married Cornelius Pollard when she was 19 and the couple went on to have three children, though they would eventually divorce. Pollard took classes for fashion illustration at the Traphagen School of Fashion and Pollard would go on to create art professionally by age 26. Barbados
Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of the Americas, and the most easterly of the Caribbean Islands. The National Cultural Foundation (NCF) is a statutory body in Barbados, created by an Act of Parliament in March 1983. Bajan , or Bajan Dialect, is an English-based creole language with African and British influences spoken on the Caribbean island of Barbados. Bajan is primarily a spoken language, meaning that in general, standard English is used in print, in the media, in the judicial system, in government, and in day-to-day business, while Bajan is reserved for less formal situations, in music, or in social commentary. Ethnologue reports that, as of 2018, 30,000 Barbadians were native English speakers, while 260,000 natively spoke Bajan. Languages Bajan is the Caribbean creole with grammar that most resembles Standard English. There is academic debate on whether its creole features are due to an earlier pidgin state or to some other reason, such as contact with neighbouring English-based creole languages. Freundel Jerome Stuart, OR, PC, SC (born 27 April 1951) is a Barbadian politician who served as seventh Prime Minister of Barbados and the leader of the Democratic Labour Party (DLP) from 23 October 2010 to 21 February 2013; and from 21 February 2013 to 25 May 2018. He succeeded David Thompson, who had died in office on 23 October 2010 from pancreatic cancer. Biography Personal life and education Stuart was born in Saint Philip, Barbados. He is the father of one daughter. Stuart was elected as 1st vice-president of the Democratic Labour Party (Barbados), DLP and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in 1995.
