Cor Blimey (other)
''Cor, Blimey!'' is a 2000 TV film that follows the relationship between ''Carry On'' film actors Sid James (played by Geoffrey Hutchings) and Barbara Windsor (played by Samantha Spiro). The film, first broadcast on ITV in April 2000, was adapted by Terry Johnson from his stage play ''Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick'' which debuted at the Royal National Theatre in 1998. Plot ''Cor, Blimey!'' starts with the arrival of Sid James's new wardrobe assistant on the set of ''Carry On Cleo'', at Pinewood Studios in 1963. Sid is depicted as a gambling womaniser with antipathy toward his professional rival, actor Kenneth Williams (played by Adam Godley). ''Cleo, Camping, Emmanuelle and Dick'' is a 1998 play written by the English dramatist Terry Johnson, who also directed the original production at the National Theatre. The play is about the off-screen love affair between ''Carry On'' film stalwarts, Barbara Windsor and Sid James. The comedy also portrays the filming of the "Carry On" series as a less than glamorous affair, characterised by leaking caravans, inadequate pay and argumentative co-stars. Most of the play's action takes place on rain-soaked locations with a scantily-clad Barbara taking refuge in Sid's trailer while he and co-star Kenneth Williams carry on their notorious feud, which began when they starred together in the TV series ''Hancock's Half Hour''. The Sunderland Empire Theatre is a large theatre venue located in High Street West in Sunderland, North East England. The theatre, which opened in 1907, is owned by City of Sunderland Council and operated by Ambassador Theatre Group Ltd, on behalf of Sunderland Empire Theatre Trust. The ''Carry On'' series of 31 British comedy films were released between 1958 and 1978, produced by Peter Rogers with director Gerald Thomas. The humour of ''Carry On'' was in the British comic tradition of music hall and bawdy Postcard#Seaside postcards, seaside postcards. In between the films, Rogers and Thomas produced Carry On Christmas Specials, four Christmas television specials (1969–1973), a Carry On Laughing, 1975 television series of thirteen episodes, and three West End theatre, West End stage shows that later toured the regions. Olga Lowe (14 September 1919 – 2 September 2013) was a British film, stage and television actress. She made her film debut in an uncredited role in the 1949 film ''Trottie True''. Described by ''The Stage'' as "an actress of extraordinary versatility," her credits included ''EastEnders'', ''Where Eagles Dare'', ''Carry On Abroad'', ''Steptoe and Son Ride Again'' and ''The Riddle of the Sands (film), The Riddle of the Sands''. Kenneth Connor, (6 June 1918 – 28 November 1993) was a British stage, film and broadcasting actor, who rose to national prominence with his appearances in the ''Carry On'' films. Early life Connor was born in Highbury, Islington, London, the son of a naval petty officer who organised concert parties. He first appeared on the stage at the age of two as an organ-grinder's monkey in one of his father's shows, in Portsmouth. By the age of 11 he had his own act. He attended the Central School of Speech and Drama, where he was a Gold Medal winner. Connor made his professional debut in J. M. Bernard Bresslaw (25 February 193411 June 1993) was a British actor. He is best known as a member of the ''Carry On'' film franchise. Bresslaw also worked on television and stage, did recordings and wrote a series of poetry.
