Alec Coppel
Alec Coppel (17 September 1907 – 22 January 1972) was an Australian-born screenwriter, novelist and playwright. He spent the majority of his career in London and Hollywood, specialising in light thrillers, mysteries and sex comedies. He is best known for the films ''Vertigo'' (1958), ''The Captain's Paradise'' (1953), '' Mr Denning Drives North'' (1951) and '' Obsession'' (1949), and the plays ''I Killed the Count'' and ''The Gazebo''. Biography Early life Coppel was born in Melbourne and attended Wesley College. He moved to England in the 1920s to study medicine at Cambridge University, but dropped out before graduating and went to work in advertising, writing in his spare time. Alfred Coppel, Alfredo Jose de Arana-Marini Coppel (November 9, 1921 – May 30, 2004) was an American author. Born in Oakland, he served as a fighter pilot in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. After his discharge, he started his career as a writer. He became one of the most prolific pulp magazine authors of the 1950s and 1960s, adopting the pseudonyms Robert Cham Gilman and A.C. Marin and writing for a variety of pulp magazines and later "slick" publishers. Though writing in a variety of genres, including action thrillers, he is known for his science fiction stories which comprise both short stories and novels. Charles Antony Coppel (born in 1937 in Melbourne) is an Australian historian and former barrister. Coppel became a barrister for five years after completing his degree in law from the University of Melbourne. He received his doctorate in political science from Monash University in 1975 with a dissertation titled ''Indonesian Chinese in Crisis''. Coppel's dissertation was published in 1983 and became one of the most widely read titles on Chinese Indonesian politics.
