Copernicus (yacht)
''Copernicus'' is a Poland, Polish yacht of Opal Class. The owner is Yacht Club Stal Gdynia, Poland. History and cruises The yacht ''Copernicus'' was built especially for the Volvo Ocean Race, Whitbread Round The World Race 1973. She was slightly bigger than standard Opal II class - to get the 33 feet rating by IOR. The wooden hull was built in Gdańsk Boatyard Stogi, with help from the members of Yacht Club Stal Gdynia. The design was by Edmund Rejewski and Wacław Liskiewicz, also Zygfryd Perlicki. The yacht took 11th place in Whitbread Round The World Race 1973. The skipper was Zygfryd Perlicki, and the crew was Zbigniew Puchalski, Bogdan Bogdzinski, Ryszard Mackiewicz and Bronislaw Tarnacki. The yacht was used for youth training, cruising, partly chartering after the race. She sails mostly on Baltic Sea and North Sea. Opal III
Opal is a hydrated amorphous form of silica (SiO2·''n''H2O); its water content may range from 3 to 21% by weight, but is usually between 6 and 10%. Due to its amorphous property, it is classified as a mineraloid, unlike crystalline forms of silica, which are considered minerals. It is deposited at a relatively low temperature and may occur in the fissures of almost any kind of rock, being most commonly found with limonite, sandstone, rhyolite, marl, and basalt. The name ''opal'' is believed to be derived from the Sanskrit word (), which means 'jewel', and later the Greek derivative (), which means 'to see a change in color'. There are two broad classes of opal: precious and common. Precious opal displays play-of-color (iridescence); common opal does not. Play-of-color is defined as "a pseudo chromatic optical effect resulting in flashes of colored light from certain minerals, as they are turned in white light." Copernicus Zaloga
Nicolaus Copernicus (; pl, MikoÅ‚aj Kopernik; gml, Niklas Koppernigk, german: Nikolaus Kopernikus; 19 February 1473 – 24 May 1543) was a Renaissance polymath, active as a mathematician, astronomer, and Catholic Church, Catholic canon (priest), canon, who formulated a mathematical model, model of Celestial spheres#Renaissance, the universe that placed heliocentrism, the Sun rather than Earth at its center. In all likelihood, Copernicus developed his model independently of Aristarchus of Samos, an ancient Greek astronomer who had formulated such a model some eighteen centuries earlier. The publication of Copernicus's model in his book ' (''On the Revolutions of the Celestial Spheres''), just before his death in 1543, was a major event in the history of science, triggering the Copernican Revolution and making a pioneering contribution to the Scientific Revolution.
