Copenhagen International School (CIS) is an international, co-educational day school located in the Copenhagen metropolitan area, Denmark. It has around 930 students of over 80 nationalities. English is the primary language of instruction. CIS offers an educational program from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 for students of all nationalities. The school year comprises four quarters, from mid-August through mid-June. Copenhagen International School is designed by C.F. Møller Architects. Academics The school is authorized to deliver the continuum of the three International Baccalaureate curriculum programs: the IB Primary Years Program (Pre-K to Grade 5) followed by the IB Middle Years Program (Grades 6-10) and the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (Grades 11 & 12). The Copenhagen metropolitan area or Metropolitan Copenhagen ( da, Hovedstadsområdet, , literally "The Capital Area") is a large commuter belt (the area in which it is practical to commute to work) surrounding Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. It includes Copenhagen Municipality, Frederiksberg and surrounding municipalities stretching westward across Zealand. It has a densely-populated core surrounded by suburban settlements. The Council of International Schools (CIS) is a membership organization aimed at international education. CIS was formed in 1949. It has over 1,360 institutional members consisting of over 740 schools and 610 colleges/universities, located in 122 countries. Many international schools in countries around the world are members. The services of CIS include international educational accreditation. The CIS headquarters are in Leiden, The Netherlands. CIS's legal name is Council of International Schools, Inc. and is a "not-for-profit" company registered in the state of Delaware in the United States.
