Copake Falls is a hamlet and census-designated place (CDP) in Columbia County, New York, United States. The hamlet, once known as Copake Iron Works, is in the eastern part of the town of Copake, west of the Massachusetts state line. The CDP was designated after the 2010 census, so no population figure is yet available. The former Copake Falls Methodist Episcopal Church was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. Geography Copake Falls is located along Bashbish Brook at the western foot of the Taconic Mountains, a range that runs along the New York-Massachusetts border. The Copake Falls area of Taconic State Park, with campsites and hiking trails, is directly east of the hamlet, and Bash Bish Falls, the highest waterfall in Massachusetts, is located to the east via New York State Route 344. Hillsdale, New York
Hillsdale is a town in Columbia County, New York, near Hudson, New York and Great Barrington, Massachusetts. State Routes 22 and 23 intersect near the town center, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The town has several restaurants and a general store, among other businesses. Hillsdale is known for its hilly landscape and is near Bash Bish Falls, Taconic State Park, and the Catamount ski area. Copake Iron Works Historic District
Copake Iron Works Historic District is a national historic district located at Copake Falls in Columbia County, New York. The district includes 11 contributing buildings, three contributing sites, eight contributing structures, and three contributing objects. They are associated with the remaining vestiges of the Copake Iron Works, an iron extraction and production operation established in the mid-19th century. It includes the remains of a charcoal blast furnace (ca. 1872), frame office and attached brick powder storage building, brick engine house and pattern shop, four frame workers houses, and a substantial Greek Revival dwelling. Also included in the district are a series of retaining walls, remnants of a cast-iron penstock, and a bridge abutment. Bash Bish Falls
Bash Bish Falls, a waterfall in Bash Bish Falls State Park in the Taconic Mountains of southwestern Massachusetts (Berkshire County), is the highest waterfall in the state. The falls are made up of a series of cascades, nearly in total. The final cascade is split into twin falls by a jutting rock, dropping in a "V" over boulders to a serene pool below. The waters of Bash Bish Falls begin at a spring in Mount Washington and after the falls, Bash Bish Brook has cut a 1,000 -foot deep valley on its way westward to adjacent New York State. The brook cuts between Bash Bish Mountain (elevation 1890) and Cedar Mountain (elevation 1883) creating a dramatic gorge that frames the falls.
