''The Cootamundra Herald'' also published as ''The Cootamundra Daily Herald'' is a bi-weekly English language newspaper published in Cootamundra, New South Wales, Australia. Newspaper history The ''Cootamundra Herald'', subtitled ''Murrumburrah, Bethungra and Bland Advertiser'', was founded by Thomas Campbell Brown (c. 1855 – 7 April 1936) and Frederick Pinkstone (1847 – 2 January 1922) and first published on 30 January 1877. Brown, a friend of Pinkstone for even longer than they were business partners, left for Sydney in 1883, and Pinkstone continued as editor until 1916, when he was forced to retire due to illness. He called on his son William Henry to take over the editorship which he did until the age of 75 and held the ownership until his death at 78. William Henry's son Harry Pinkstone then inherited the paper and edited it for five years before his own death at the age of 48. Cootamundra, nicknamed Coota, is a town in the South West Slopes region of New South Wales, Australia and within the Riverina. It is within the Cootamundra-Gundagai Regional Council. At the 2016 Census, Cootamundra had a population of 6,782. It is located on the Olympic Highway at the point where it crosses the Muttama Creek, between Junee and Cowra. Its railway station is on the Main Southern line, part of the Melbourne-to-Sydney line. Cootamundra is the birthplace of Sir Donald Bradman , an Australian cricketer universally regarded as the greatest batsman of all time. It is also known for being the site of Cootamundra Domestic Training Home for Aboriginal Girls, an institution housing Aboriginal girls who were forcibly taken from their families. The newspaper has run continuously under various titles since June 1867 when it began as ''The Mining Record and Grenfell General Advertiser''. History ''The Mining Record and Grenfell General Advertiser'' was first published on 15 June 1867 by William Barnby Howarth, appearing every Saturday. The newspaper changed its name to ''The Grenfell Record and Lachlan District Advertiser'' on 27 April 1876. In June 1842 ''The Grenfell Record'' absorbed ''The Grenfell Observer'', formerly ''The Vedette'', and became ''The Grenfell Record and Bland Advertiser''. ''The Biz'' was a weekly English language tabloid newspaper published in Fairfield, New South Wales Australia. The paper was first published in 1917 by Albert Henry Johnson. For forty years the publishing house was located in Cabramatta, New South Wales, before being moved to Smart Street, Fairfield. It ceased publication in January 1980. ''The Biz'' was digitised in 2012. History During the 1930s and 1940s, the paper was printed with a Model 8 Linotype machine made by the Mergenthaler Linotype Company.
