Coore
Coore (also known as Coor) () is a village in the parish of Kilmurry Ibrickane, near Mullagh and Milltown Malbay, in County Clare, Ireland. It is made up of two communities: Coore East and Coore West. Coore West is split into two parts: * Coore West (east) is the place where the local church is standing. "The Most Holy Redeemer" church is built in 1865-1866, by father Patrick Moran. * Coore West (west) houses Coore National School and the former "Gleeson's Pub", playground of musicians like Kitty Hayes and Junior Crehan. Wind farm In 2011 a company proposed development of a wind farm in the vicinity of Coore. The local people were divided over the plan. Kilmurry Ibrickane (Catholic Parish)
Kilmurry Ibrickane ( ga, Cill Mhuire Uí Bhreacáin), also known as Mullagh (Kilmurry Ibrickane), is a parish of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe that is located in west County Clare, Ireland. A civil parish of the same name also exists which is part of the historic barony of Ibrickane. The parish derives its name from the tiny settlement of Kilmurry in Ibrickane, the location of the church before Cromwellian times. The main settlements in the parish are Mullagh, Coore and Quilty. The GAA club, Kilmurry Ibrickane GAA, is centred on the parish. History It is unknown when the parish came into existence. For a long period it was ministered together with the parish of Kilfarboy (Milltown Malbay). The "Register of Priests" in 1704 mentioned Fr. Teige and Fr. Francis Shannon as priests in respectively Kilfarboy and Kilmurry Ibrickane, but according to Ó Murchadha, there is little doubt that they in fact acted as priest and curate for both parishes. Kitty Hayes
Kitty Smith Hayes (1928 – 17 May 2008) was a well-known concertina-player in Shanaway, Milltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland. Hayes was born in the townland of Fahanlunaghta, close to Lahinch. She was the daughter of Peter Smith, a locally well-known concertina player. Hayes started playing at a young age, attracted to the music played by her father. When she mastered the basics, Peter Smith bought her her own concertina. Junior Crehan
''Junior Crehan'' (born Martin Crehan, 17 January 1908 – 3 August 1998) was an Irish fiddle player who composed a number of tunes that remain popular within the Irish Traditional Music community. Biography Crehan was born and raised in Bonavilla, Ballymackea Beg near Mullagh, County Clare on the West coast of County Clare. While his father was not a musician, his mother played the concertina. The Crehans frequently opened their home for social occasions, so live music and was a fixture in their home. Junior first took up the concertina himself, but took an interest in an old fiddle in the house, and took up the process of restoring it himself. When established fiddler Thady Casey heard Crehan play in a pub (having taught himself initially), he offered to tutor him - as a result, Crehan learned the fundamentals of fiddling from Thady, and learned stylistically from both him and his brother, Scully Casey, who was also a respected fiddler. Mullagh, County Clare
Mullagh () is a village in County Clare, Ireland. It lies not far from the Atlantic coast, some 5 km southeast of Quilty and 6.5 km south-southeast of Spanish Point. Nearby towns include Milltown Malbay (7 km to the north) and Kilrush (22 km to the south). Parish The village of Mullagh is the centre of the parish of Kilmurry Ibrickane in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Killaloe. The local church is named St. Mary's. Milltown Malbay
Milltown Malbay (), also Miltown Malbay, is a town in the west of County Clare, Ireland, near Spanish Point. The population was 829 at the 2016 Census. Name There is a townland on the southern edge of the town called Poulawillin or Pollawillin (). There is evidence that this name was once applied to the town – for example, in the ''Parish Namebook'' of the ''Ordnance Survey'' (1839) there is a reference to "Baile an Mhuillinn anciently Poll a’ Mhuillinn, Milltown Malbay". Gráinne Hambly
Gráinne Hambly is an internationally known Irish traditional harper, teacher and musician. Life and education Hambly was born to Michael Hambly and Mary Joyce in Knockrickard County Mayo, Ireland in 1975. She has 2 sisters who are also musicians. She learned traditional Irish music on the tin whistle as a child and then learned the concertina and harp. Hambly won the All-Ireland senior competition in Clonmel in 1994 on the concertina. She also won the Harp Festivals competitions at Keadue in 1994 and Granard in 1995 and the All-Ireland senior harp competition in 1994. She was also a member of the National Folk Orchestra and toured with the Belfast Harp Orchestra founded by Janet Harbison.
