Cooper Creek
The Cooper Creek (formerly Cooper's Creek) is a river in the Australian states of Queensland and South Australia. It was the site of the death of the explorers Burke and Wills in 1861. It is sometimes known as the Barcoo River from one of its tributaries and is one of three major Queensland river systems that flow into the Lake Eyre basin. The flow of the creek depends on monsoonal rains falling months earlier and many hundreds of kilometres away in eastern Queensland. It is in length. History Indigenous Australians have inhabited the area for at least 50,000 years, with over 25 tribal groups living in the Channel Country area alone. A vast trade network had been established running from north to south with goods such as ochre sent north with shells and pituri moved south. Coopers Creek (New South Wales)
The Coopers Creek, a perennial stream of the Richmond River catchment, is located in Northern Rivers region in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Location and features Coopers Creek rises below Jerusalem Mountain about east southeast of Doughboy Mountain, in the Nightcap Range within the Nightcap National Park. The river flows generally south southeast and then south southwest, joined by two minor tributaries before reaching its confluence with the Wilsons River near Bexhill. The river descends over its course. Etymology The river is believed to be named in honour of Alec Cooper, a cedar cutter working in the district surrounding the river during the early 1880s. Coopers Creek, Victoria
Coopers Creek is a locality and mine in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. In the 1860s, Coopers Creek was settled during the Victorian gold rush and, throughout its history, gold, copper and lime have been mined there. Today, Coopers Creek is effectively limited to two camping sites, the first near the site of the mining town and the second to the east at Bruntons Bridge. Ruins from the locality's mining history, and the Copper Mine Hotel are all of the locality's history which survives. In August 2022, the 21 properties that comprise the town were listed for sale. Geography Coopers Creek is in the Shire of Baw Baw in Victoria's Gippsland region. It is located in the Great Dividing Range, in the steep forested slopes of the Thomson River valley.
