Cooper Carlisle
Cooper Morrison Carlisle (born August 11, 1977) is an American former college and professional football player who was a guard in the National Football League (NFL) for thirteen seasons. Carlisle played college football for the University of Florida, where he was a member of a national championship team. He was drafted in the fourth round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos, and has played professionally for the Broncos and Oakland Raiders of the NFL. Guard (American Football)
In gridiron football, a guard (G), otherwise known as an offensive guard (OG), is a player who lines up between the center and the tackles on the offensive line of a football team on the line of scrimmage used primarily for blocking. Right guards (RG) is the term for the guards on the right of the offensive line, while left guards (LG) are on the left side. Guards are to the right or left of the center. The guard's job is to protect the quarterback from the incoming linemen during pass plays, as well as creating openings (holes) for the running backs to head through. The Florida Gators football program represents the University of Florida (UF) in American college football. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section).
