Coop Extra
Extra is a Norwegian discount supermarket chain of 535 stores as of 2021. It is part of the Coop Norge cooperative and was until late 2015 named Coop Extra. The chain markets itself as being low-cost while maintaining large stores with a wide selection of items. The chain director of Extra is Daniel Kyrre Pedersen. Coop Extra was established in 2006, with its first store opening on 15 September in Halden. The chain expanded rapidly, much of it by rebranding other Coop stores such as Coop Prix. Many Rimi and ICA stores were rebranded to Extra in 2015 when Coop Norge bought up most of ICA AB's Norwegian operations. The chain competes mainly on offering lower prices. Coop Norge
Coop Norge SA is a Norwegian cooperative. It is owned by 117 local cooperatives with approximately 2 million members. The company has its headquarters in Oslo. History The first cooperative store in Norway was opened in the 1850s and, on 27 June 1906, a group of 28 cooperatives formed the NKL (''Norges Kooperative Landsforening'', "Norwegian Cooperative Association") to act as a wholesaler for its members. The next year, it joined the International Co-operative Alliance. Halden
Halden (), between 1665 and 1928 known as Fredrikshald, is both a town and a municipality in Viken county, Norway. Rimi (Norway)
RIMI was a grocery store chain in Norway. The discount supermarket is best known for its slogan, "Consistently low prices" (''Faste lave priser''). The supermarket business can trace itself back to 1977. It was founded as the discount grocery store chain RIMI 500 by Norwegian businessman Stein Erik Hagen. Starting in 1992, Hagen sold an interest in the chain to the Swedish group, ICA AB. In 1998, Hagen and ICA reached an agreement to sell a half interest in the business to the Dutch-based group, Koninklijke Ahold N.V. In 2004, Hagen sold his remaining interest in RIMI. From 2004 to 2014, RIMI was owned and operated by ICA Norge. In 2012, Ahold sold its share of ICA Norge to ICA AB, leaving Rimi under fully Swedish ownership. ICA Gruppen AB (publ) (; "ICA Group"; from ''Inköpscentralernas aktiebolag'', ) (formerly Hakon Invest AB) is a Swedish retailer franchise with a focus on food and health. The group also owns a bank, real estate division and a pharmacy chain. The company was started in 1938, based on a business model which was introduced by Hakonbolagen in 1917. REMA 1000 (Bokmål: Rema tusen) is a multinational no-frills soft-discount grocery chain owned entirely by the Reitan Group (Reitangruppen). REMA is a short for ' (Reitan Food), referring to Odd Reitan (founder of the company). ''1000'' refers to offering a selection of only one thousand different products (see the history section).
