Coon Creek Bridge
The Coon Creek Bridge is a historic bridge in rural western Benton County, Arkansas. The bridge carries County Road 24 (Coon Hollow Road) across Coon Creek between Decatur and the Oklahoma state line. It is a single-span Warren pony truss bridge, with a span of , that rests on concrete abutments. It was built in 1930 and underwent major rehabilitation in 1975. The bridge was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007. Cherokee City is an unincorporated area, unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) in Benton County, Arkansas, Benton County, Arkansas, United States. Per the 2020 United States Census, 2020 census, the population was 73. It is the location of (or is the nearest community to) Coon Creek Bridge, which is located on Cty Rd. 24 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The community was named for the Cherokee, since the Trail of Tears crossed the landscape when the Cherokee migrated west to Indian territory, now Oklahoma in the late 1830s. The town is within the Northwest Arkansas region, located about 5 miles east of Oklahoma and 4 miles south of the Missouri state line. A warren is a network of wild rodent or lagomorph, typically rabbit burrows. Domestic warrens are artificial, enclosed establishment of animal husbandry dedicated to the raising of rabbits for meat and fur.
