Cooksville (Mississauga)
Cooksville is a neighbourhood in the city of Mississauga, Regional Municipality of Peel, in the Greater Toronto Area region of Ontario, Canada. It is centred around the intersection of Dundas Street and Hurontario Street near the eponymous Cooksville Creek. History Cooksville was originally located in Toronto Township, and was an important stage coach stop along the Dundas highway, which was carved out of the wilderness after a survey by Asa Danforth Jr. in 1798. The settlement was originally named Harrisville in honour of Daniel Harris, Cooksville's first settler, who immigrated from the United States in 1807. Later in 1836, the settlement was renamed to the present name Cooksville after Jacob Cook. The entrepreneur, Jacob Cook, won the contract to deliver mail from York to Niagara, operated several stage coach lines, was the local magistrate and built the Cooksville House, the first licensed tavern in the area at the northwest corner of Dundas and Hurontario streets in 182 ... Cooksville GO Station is a GO Transit train and bus station the Milton line in the community of Cooksville in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It is located at 3210 Hurontario Street, near Dundas and Hurontario Streets. The future Hurontario LRT will connect to this station. Description Like most GO stations, Cooksville has parking for commuters and a station building with a ticket sales agent and a waiting room. It is located near several condominium complexes, which provides ridership on the Milton Line. The 1400-space parking lot allows access to those who live closer to Mississauga City Centre to use the station. The GO Station is served by seven trains inbound to Union Station in the morning rush hour and seven trains outbound to Milton during the evening rush hour. There is also the Train-Bus during off-peak hours. Mississauga East—Cooksville (french: Mississauga-Est—Cooksville) is a federal electoral district in Ontario, Canada, that has been represented in the House of Commons of Canada since 2004. History It was created in 2003 from parts of Mississauga Centre and Mississauga East ridings. Following the 2012 redistribution, the riding will include parts of Mississauga—Brampton South and Mississauga South for the next election. The northern Burnhamthorpe boundary would change to Eglinton. This would mean that Rockwood Village would move from Mississauga—Brampton South to the "Mississauga East-Cooksville" riding. It consisted of the part of the City of Mississauga east of a line drawn from north to south along the Queensway, Mavis Road, Central Parkway East, HWY 403 and Eglington Avenue East. Cooksville is a village in McLean County, Illinois, United States. The population was 157 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Bloomington–Normal Metropolitan Statistical Area. Geography Cooksville is in eastern McLean County, east-northeast of Bloomington, the county seat. Illinois Route 165 touches the northwest part of the village leading west-southwest toward Bloomington and east-northeast to Sibley. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Cooksville has a total area of , all land. The village is in the watershed of the Mackinaw River, a west-flowing tributary of the Illinois River. Cooksville is an unincorporated community in Howard County, Maryland, United States. As of 2016, the population was 631. The town was founded by Thomas Cook in 1802. The crossroads town was anchored by the Joshua Roberts Tavern, where General Lafayette visited in 1824. The inn was destroyed by fire, rebuilt, and demolished a second time. Thomas Cook exchanged his stake in Cooksville with Thomas Beale Dorsey for the 231-acre Round About Hills slave plantation. A Post Office opened on the 4th of July 1851, the same year Howard County was formed from a portion of Anne Arundel County. Roberts Inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. On June 29, 1863, J. E. B. Stuart marched 5000 confederate soldiers through Cooksville en route to Westminster.
