Cookamidgera, New South Wales
Cookamidgera is a town, Parish of Ashburnham County and Cadastral suburb of Forbes shire and Parkes Shire in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Originally known as Bindegandri, the town was renamed Cookamidgera on 29 August 1895. Cookamidgera is a stop on the Broken Hill railway line which was opened in 1893. The passenger services stopped in the 1970s, and passengers alight at the nearby Parkes railway station.Forbes Family History Group Journal No. 104. Most retail and commercial activity has also left the town, with such services being obtained in the adjoining town of Parkes. Dubbo is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of New South Wales. It is represented by Dugald Saunders of the National Party. Parkes is a town in the Central West region of New South Wales, Australia. It is the main settlement in the local government area of Parkes Shire. Parkes Railway Station
Parkes railway station is a heritage-listed former locomotive depot and railway station and now locomotive roundhouse and railway station located on the Broken Hill line in May Street, Parkes in the Parkes Shire local government area of New South Wales, Australia. The railway station serves the town of Parkes and was built from 1881 to 1893. It is also known as the Parkes Railway Station group. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999. Broken Hill Railway Line
The Broken Hill railway line is now part of the transcontinental railway from Sydney to Perth. New South Wales's first line opened from Sydney to Parramatta Junction (near Granville Station) in 1855 and was extended as the Main Western line in stages to Orange in 1877. The Broken Hill line branched off the Main Western line at Orange and was opened to Molong in 1885. It was extended to Parkes and Forbes in 1893. This line was extended from Parkes to Bogan Gate and Condobolin in 1898 and Roto and Trida in 1919. An isolated section of line was also opened from Menindee to the town of Broken Hill in 1919, which met the gauge Silverton Tramway at a break-of-gauge. At Cockburn, the Silverton Tramway connected with the South Australian Railways system to Port Pirie and via a break of gauge at Terowie to Adelaide.
