Maroon State School and Maroon War Memorial is a heritage-listed state school and war memorial at 2772 Boonah Rathdowney Road, Maroon, Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built in 1910. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 9 October 2015. History Maroon State School, located south of Boonah, near Queensland's border with New South Wales, opened in 1891 as Maroon Provisional School, soon after closer settlement commenced in the district. The school was transferred to Department of Public Instruction ownership in 1898 and became Maroon State School in 1909. A playshed was added in 1910, and a teacher's residence was constructed in 1937. The original teaching building was replaced with a small timber school building in 1938. Coochin Coochin Homestead is a heritage-listed homestead at J Bell Road, Coochin, Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1840s circa to 1920s circa. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 August 1992. History In 1842, the area known as Delhunty's Plain was settled as a pastoral run by David Hunter and his partner James Fyffe. In 1844, the lease was transferred to John Kent, who was first to re-use the traditional name of Coochin Coochin, an anglicised version of ga-jin-ga-jin ("red stones"). The main section of the homestead was constructed some time in the 1840s. A report in the '' North Australian, Ipswich and General Advertiser'' in 1858 by the Coochin Coochin superintendent, Mr. Willis, reported a breach of the Master and Servant Act at Coochin Coochin by two men, Ironmonger and Foreman, who were subsequently fined and respectively. The Scenic Rim Region is a local government area in West Moreton region of South East Queensland, Australia. Established in 2008, it was preceded by several previous local government areas with histories extending back to the early 1900s and beyond. The main town of the region is Beaudesert. Mount Alford is a rural town and locality in the Scenic Rim Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Mount Alford had a population of 268 people. Geography Mount Alford is a typical scenic Rim community surrounded by rich agricultural land. Teviot Brook passes just to the east of the town. Downstream is the Wyaralong Dam. Erosion along Blackrock Creek has prompted the Scenic Rim Regional Council and SEQ Catchments to implement on-farm infrastructure and land management practice changes to reduce sediment runoff and improve water quality. Geography The town is positioned near the Fassifern Valley, McPherson Range and Main Range. It is surrounded by hills, including Mount French and other Moogerah Peaks.
