Convivium Records
Convivium Records is a British independent record label and record self-releasing house established by Adrian Green in 2010. The label records, masters, markets and distributes choral and instrumental music for predominantly British, European and American artists, composers and ensembles. An in-house recording choir, the Convivium Singers, provides support for larger force vocal recordings. The label has produced albums with choirs including Sansara, Sofia Vokalensemble, Ars Nova, Winchester College Chapel Choir, Portsmouth Grammar School Chamber Choir, Portsmouth Cathedral Choir, the Hogan Ensemble. The label has recorded with many ensembles, including the London Mozart Players, Florisma, Fidelio Trio, the English Cornett and Sackbut Ensemble. Independent Record Label
An independent record label (or indie label) is a record label that operates without the funding or distribution of major record labels; they are a type of small- to medium-sized enterprise, or SME. The labels and artists are often represented by trade associations in their country or region, which in turn are represented by the international trade body, the Worldwide Independent Network (WIN). Many of the labels started as producers and distributors of specific genres of music, such as jazz music, or represent something new and non-mainstream, such as Elvis Presley in the early days. Indies release rock, soul, R&B, jazz, blues, gospel, reggae, hip hop, and world music. Dan Locklair
Dan Locklair (born 1949) is an American composer. He holds the position of Composer-in-Residence at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina where he is also a Professor of Music. Locklair has written numerous works ranging from organ solos to compositions for full orchestra, but he is most often noted for his sacred music. Locklair was born in Charlotte, North Carolina in 1949. He was a professional organist by age 14; he is a graduate of Mars Hill College and also holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the Eastman School of Music. The School of Philosophy and Economic Science (SPES), also operating under the names the School of Philosophy and the School of Practical Philosophy and legally named the School of Economic Science (SES), is a worldwide organisation based in London. It offers non-academic courses for adults, ranging from an introductory series called Practical Philosophy to more advanced classes. Its teachings are principally influenced by Advaita Vedanta, an orthodox philosophical system of Hinduism. Malcolm Archer
Malcolm Archer (born 1952) is an English composer, conductor and organist. He combines this work with a recital career. Archer was formerly Organist and Director of Music at Bristol Cathedral, Wells Cathedral and at St Paul's Cathedral and Director of Chapel Music at Winchester College. He married Alison (an artist and musician) in 1994, and they have a son (b.1997) and a daughter. John White (composer)
John White (born 5 April 1936, in Berlin) is an English experimental composer and musical performer. He invented the early British form of minimalism known as systems music, with his early Machines. Life and career White was born in Berlin to an English father and German mother. The family moved to London at the outbreak of war. Originally a sculptor, White decided on a composition career when he heard Messiaen's ''Turangalîla-Symphonie''. He studied composition at the London Royal College of Music from 1955 to 1958 with Bernard Stevens and piano with Arthur Alexander and Eric Harrison. He also took analysis classes privately with Elisabeth Lutyens. Upon graduation, White became the musical director of the Western Theatre Ballet, and then professor of composition at the Royal College of Music from 1961 to 1967. David Price (baseball)
David Taylor Price (born August 26, 1985) is an American former professional baseball pitcher. Price was selected first overall in the 2007 Major League Baseball draft by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays and made his Major League Baseball (MLB) debut in September 2008. He played for the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. Price pitched as a relief pitcher during the Rays' run through the 2008 playoffs. Carson Cooman
Carson P. Cooman (born June 12, 1982, Rochester, New York) is an American composer and organist. Cooman was first given piano lessons as a three-year-old and began studying organ under Bruce Klanderman at age ten. He graduated from Allendale Columbia School and then studied music at Harvard University. He then went on to study at Carnegie Mellon University, studying with Bernard Rands and Judith Weir. Cooman is a prolific composer, having composed almost 1,000 works by the time he reached age thirty. As a performer, he tours as a professional organist concentrating on the performance of modern composers; he has premiered more than one hundred works for organ. James Bowman (countertenor)
James Thomas Bowman CBE (born 6 November 1941 in Oxford, England) is an English countertenor. His career spans opera, oratorio, contemporary music and solo recitals. In 2010 it was announced that he would give his last London concert in 2011 at the Wigmore Hall, although he would continue to give recitals outside the capital. A few years previously he retired from the Chapel Royal, St. James's Palace in London, after a decade of service. Education Bowman's background is in Anglican church music. He was educated at The King's School, Ely where he began singing as a boy chorister at Ely Cathedral, progressing to become head chorister. Jonathan Powell (musician)
Jonathan Powell (born 1969) is a British pianist and self-taught composer. Biography Powell studied with Denis Matthews and Sulamita Aronovsky. He made his performing debut at the age of 20 in the Purcell Room in London. His repertoire ranges from Bach to contemporary works, including composers as varied as Michael Finnissy, John White, Marco Ambrosini, Johannes Maria Staud and Christophe Sirodeau. He specialises in the works of the late Romantic era, including Russian music and Alexander Scriabin, on whose impact on Russian composers he wrote a dissertation at Cambridge University.
