Author
An author is the writer of a book, article, play, mostly written work. A broader definition of the word "author" states: "''An author is "the person who originated or gave existence to anything" and whose authorship determines responsibility for what was created''." Typically, the first owner of a copyright is the person who created the work, i.e. the author. If more than one person created the work (i.e., multiple authors), then a case of joint authorship takes place. The copyright laws are have minor differences in various jurisdictions across the United States. The United States Copyright Office, for example, defines copyright as "a form of protection provided by the laws of the United States (title 17, U.S. Code) to authors of 'original works of authorship.'" Legal significance of authorship Holding the title of "author" over any "literary, dramatic, musical, artistic, rcertain other intellectual works" gives rights to this person, the owner of the copyright, especially ... Freelance Writer
''Freelance'' (sometimes spelled ''free-lance'' or ''free lance''), ''freelancer'', or ''freelance worker'', are terms commonly used for a person who is self-employed and not necessarily committed to a particular employer long-term. Freelance workers are sometimes represented by a company or a temporary agency that resells freelance labor to clients; others work independently or use professional associations or websites to get work. While the term ''independent contractor'' would be used in a different register of English to designate the tax and employment classes of this type of worker, the term "freelancing" is most common in culture and creative industries, and use of this term may indicate participation therein. Fields, professions, and industries where freelancing is predominant include: music, writing, acting, computer programming, web design, graphic design, translating and illustrating, film and video production, and other forms of piece work that some cultural theor ... Contributor Network
A contributor network (or contributor platform) is an arrangement in which an online publication releases articles authored by freelance writers, known as ''contributors'', who are not part of its staff. Depending on the program, contributors may be paid or unpaid; paid contributors are typically compensated based on the volume of articles they produce or the amount of web traffic their articles generate. Online publications use contributor networks to inexpensively expand their content selection. Because contributors are freelancers, publications can increase or decrease the number of contributors in their networks more easily than they can hire or fire employees. Some publications that use the contributor model exercise limited editorial oversight. For example, online articles written by ''Forbes'' contributors are not reviewed by editors prior to publication. Contributor networks are vulnerable to conflicts of interest. Public relations agents and marketing companies have adve ... [...More Info...]       [...Related Items...]     OR:     [Wikipedia]   [Google]   [Baidu]   |

The Contributor (LDS Magazine)
''The Contributor'' was an independent publication associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) between 1879 and 1896. It was a monthly periodical and sought to represent the Young Men's and Young Ladies' Mutual Improvement Associations (YMMIA and YLMIA respectively), the youth organizations of the LDS Church at the time. It was founded by Junius F. Wells, the inaugural head of the YMMIA. Abraham H. Cannon became editor when the magazine was purchased by the Cannon Publishing Company in 1892. With the death of Cannon in July 1896, ''The Contributor'' ceased publication a few months later and was not immediately replaced. The ''Young Woman's Journal'' had begun publication in 1889 and it replaced ''The Contributor'' for the YLMIA in all but name. However, to provide an official replacement for ''The Contributor'' that would cater to both young men and young women, the YMMIA and the YLMIA began publication of the ''Improvement Era The ''Improvement Er ...
