Contrabass Trombone
The contrabass trombone (german: Kontrabassposaune, it, trombone contrabbasso) is the lowest instrument in the trombone family of brass instruments. First appearing built in 18′ B♭ an octave below the tenor trombone, since the late 20th century it has largely been supplanted by a less cumbersome bass-contrabass instrument pitched in 12′ F, a perfect fourth below the tenor and bass trombone. Wagner notably specified the contrabass for his ''Der Ring des Nibelungen'' opera cycle in the 1870s, and it has since appeared occasionally in large orchestral works without becoming a permanent member of the modern orchestra. A wind instrument is a musical instrument that contains some type of resonator (usually a tube) in which a column of air is set into vibration by the player blowing into (or over) a mouthpiece set at or near the end of the resonator. The pitch of the vibration is determined by the length of the tube and by manual modifications of the effective length of the vibrating column of air. In the case of some wind instruments, sound is produced by blowing through a reed; others require buzzing into a metal mouthpiece, while yet others require the player to blow into a hole at an edge, which splits the air column and creates the sound. Jacques-François-Fromental-Élie Halévy, usually known as Fromental Halévy (; 27 May 179917 March 1862), was a French composer. He is known today largely for his opera '' La Juive''. Early career Halévy was born in Paris, son of the cantor Élie Halfon Halévy, who was the secretary of the Jewish community of Paris and a writer and teacher of Hebrew, and a French Jewish mother. The name Fromental (meaning 'oat grass'), by which he was generally known, reflects his birth on the day dedicated to that plant: 7 Prairial in the French Revolutionary calendar, which was still operative at that time. Jean Hilaire Asté
Jean Hilaire Asté (1775–1840), also known as Halary or Halari, was a French professor of music and instrument-maker. Among the other instruments he patented, he is best known for inventing the ophicleide of which, it has been claimed, only five originals remain. Born in Agen, he moved to Paris in 1796, where, in 1804, he founded the ''maison'' Halary or Halari workshop, which made brass and woodwind instruments for most of the 19th century. Although it was invented in 1817, his patent wasn't awarded until 1821. Jacob Gottfried Weber (March 1, 1779 – September 21, 1839) was a prominent German writer on music (especially on music theory), composer, and jurist. Biography Weber was born at Freinsheim. From 1824 to 1839, he was the editor of ''Cäcilia'', a musical periodical published in Mainz, which influenced musical thought in Germany during the early Romantic era. The trombone (german: Posaune, Italian, French: ''trombone'') is a musical instrument in the brass family. As with all brass instruments, sound is produced when the player's vibrating lips cause the air column inside the instrument to vibrate. Nearly all trombones use a telescoping slide mechanism to alter the pitch instead of the valves used by other brass instruments. The term sackbut refers to the early forms of the trombone commonly used during the Renaissance music, Renaissance and Baroque music, Baroque eras. A sackbut has the characteristic telescopic slide of a trombone, used to vary the length of the tube to change Pitch (music), pitch, but is distinct from later trombones by its smaller, more cylindrically-proportioned bore (wind instruments), bore, and its less-flared bell (wind instrument), bell.
