Continental Giant Rabbit
The Continental Giant, also known as the German Giant, is a very large breed of rabbit which was originally bred for meat. It is recognized by the British Rabbit Council in two categories, colored and white, but is not recognized as a breed by the American Rabbit Breeders Association. The Continental Giant, first documented in 1893, is said to have descended from the Flemish Giant. The longest Continental Giant on record is approximately 4 feet 4 inches (c. 132 cm) in length, and the heaviest weighs 53 lbs (c. 24kg). The average lifespan for the breed is 4–5 years. The record for the longest Continental Giant has been held by the breeder Annette Edwards since 2004, across three generations of rabbits. British Rabbit Council
The British Rabbit Council (BRC) is an organisation for rabbit enthusiasts in the United Kingdom. Rabbits are the UK's third most popular pet. History The British Rabbit Council was formed in 1934 when the British Rabbit Society and the National Rabbit Council of Great Britain and her Dominions merged. Recognised breeds There are over 50 breeds recognised by the British Rabbit Council and over 500 varieties. These are divided into four groups – Fancy, Lop, Normal Fur, Rex. Structure To enter most rabbit shows, participants must be Council members and their rabbits must have a metal ring around one hind leg registered in their name. The American Rabbit Breeders Association (ARBA) is a national Club (organization), club for domestic rabbit and cavy breeders. The ARBA is headquartered in Knox, Pennsylvania in the United States. Its membership is composed of rabbit and cavy breeders throughout, fanciers, and pet owners in North America and many countries throughout the world. The ARBA serves to promote the domestic rabbit and cavy fancy, as well as commercial rabbit production. The American Rabbit Breeders Association sets official breed standards for recognized list of rabbit breeds, rabbit breeds and cavy breeds. Every five years the ARBA publishes a detailed guide entitled ''Standard of Perfection''. Flemish Giants are historically a utility breed used for their fur and meat. They are often kept as pets as they are known for being docile and patient when being handled. Annette Edwards
Annette Edwards (born April 1952) holds consecutive awards for breeding the world's longest rabbits and is the oldest glamour model in the United Kingdom. Life and career As a child, Edwards was raised by her grandmother and had pet rabbits since the age of 8. At the age of 15, she began a modelling career with a Birmingham agency. Two years later she was married and stopped modelling until her youngest child was born. Edwards became ''Miss Birmingham'' at the age of 29 while caring for six children. Later a ruling would prevent young mothers competing, leading Edwards to support a campaign to overturn the ban in 2014. Edwards was featured in adverts for Nivea Visage face cream in a 2014 Mothering Sunday campaign. She was 45 at the time. In an interview about this campaign, Edwards spoke about inappropriate advances from photographers and how this type of harassment had not changed in her lifetime.
