Constitutional Assembly of Estonia ( et, Põhiseaduse Assamblee) was the representative body whose goal was to create new Constitution of the Republic of Estonia. The assembly was composed on 20 August 1991 by the members from Committee of Estonia and Supreme Council of the Republic of Estonia. The assembly functioned until 10 April 1992. Constitution Of Estonia (1992)
Constitution of Estonia is the fundamental law of the Republic of Estonia and establishes the state order as that of a democratic republic where the supreme power is vested in its citizens. The first Constitution was adopted by the freely elected Estonian Constituent Assembly on 15 June 1920 and came into force on 21 December 1920. Heavily amended on 24 January 1934, following a referendum in 1933, it was in force until the second Constitution was enacted on 1 January 1938. It remained in force, ''de facto'', until 16 June 1940, when the Soviet Union occupied Estonia and, ''de jure'', until 28 June 1992, when the third and current Constitution of the Republic of Estonia was adopted by referendum. Ain Kaalep
Ain Kaalep (4 June 1926 – 9 June 2020) was an Estonian poet, playwright, literary critic and translator. Biography and career Kaalep was born in Tartu. He studied at the Hugo Treffner Gymnasium and at the University of Tartu, from which he graduated in 1956, specializing in Finno-Ugric languages. He fought as a volunteer in the Finnish Infantry Regiment 200 and after the war was imprisoned by the Soviet occupation authorities in Estonia. In 1989–2001, Kaalep was the editor-in-chief of the journal ''Akadeemia''. In 2002 he held a one-year professorship of Liberal Arts at the University of Tartu. Kaalep was a member of the Congress of Estonia. He published mainly poetry collections. Linnart Mäll (7 June 1938 – 14 February 2010) was an Estonian historian, orientalist, translator and politician. Biography Born in Tallinn, Estonia, Mäll graduated from the University of Tartu in 1962 with a major in general history. He followed graduation with postgraduate studies at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences at the USSR Academy of Sciences (1964–1966) and Department of History, University of Tartu (1966–1969); 1985 Cand. Lennart Meri
Lennart Georg Meri (; 29 March 1929 – 14 March 2006) was an Estonian politician, writer, and film director. He served as the second president of Estonia from 1992 to 2001. Meri was among the leaders of the movement to restore Estonian independence from the Soviet Union. Early life Meri was born in Tallinn, a son of the Estonian diplomat and later Shakespeare translator Georg Meri, and Estonian Swedish mother Alice-Brigitta Engmann. Marju Lauristin (born 7 April 1940) is an Estonian politician, and former Member of the European Parliament and Minister of Social Affairs. She is a member of the Social Democratic Party, part of the Party of European Socialists. Lauristin is currently a member of the Tartu city council. Mart Laar (born 22 April 1960) is an Estonian politician and historian. He served as the Prime Minister of Estonia from 1992 to 1994 and from 1999 to 2002. Toomas Kork (born 20 November 1945, Tartu) is an Estonian social activist, farmer, businessman, and politician, most notable for voting for the Estonian restoration of Independence. Kork graduated in 1970 from the Faculty of Economic at the Estonian University of Life Sciences (EPA). From 1971 to 1975, he was an EPA Laboratory Head and then until 1988 was Deputy Director and Director of the Tamsalu Cereal Product Combine. Valeri Kois
Valeri Kois (born 10 June 1950, Tallinn) is an Estonian politician, most notable for voting for the Estonian restoration of Independence. He was born in Tallinn, but moved to Leningrad Oblast at an early age, where he graduated from the Institute of High School and Civil Engineers. After leaving military service in 1976, he settled in Kohtla-Järve. Kois initially worked at Kohtla-Järve Road Repair and Construction Authority. At the beginning of 1990, he was the secretary of the Kohtla-Järve Regional Branch of the Communist Party of Estonia. From 1990 to 1992, he was a member of the Supreme Soviet of Estonia. Kalju Koha (born 16 August 1956, Tartu) is an Estonian politician and civil servant, most notable for voting for the Estonian restoration of Independence. He graduated in 1974 from Tartu 7th Secondary School and in 1979 with a degree in electrical engineering from the Estonian University of Life Sciences. Koha worked as an electrical engineer at the Avangard collective farm from 1979 to 1986, and as its main engineer from 1986 to 1990.
