Constitution Square (Kyiv)
Constitution Square ( uk, Площа Конституції, Ploshcha Konstytutsii) is a square restricted to pedestrians only and located in the very center of Kyiv city, Pechersk neighborhood of the Pechersk Raion. Constitution Square The square is elongated stretching from vulytsia Mykhaila Hrushevskoho (Hrushevsky Street) towards the Dnieper's sloping banks. On a northern side of the square is located an ensemble of two government buildings consisting of Verkhovna Rada building and Mariinskyi Palace, while on its southern side is located Mariinskyi Park. Just pass the Palace, the Constitution Square ends. The square was known since building of the Palace back in 1750. Until 1854 here were located administrative buildings, taking place military parades, training, etc. Already in 1847 next to it was established Mariinskyi Park. Pechersk ( uk, Печерськ) is a historical neighborhood in the city center of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. It is a part of the administrative Pechersk Raion (district). Pechersk is located between the Lypky, Klov and Dnieper hills. Its main streets are Ivan Mazepa Street, Dmytro Godzenko Street, and Lesya Ukrainka Boulevard. History Its name comes from the caves of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra (founded in 1051) existing since ancient times. Pecherskyi District ( uk, Печерський район) is an Urban districts of Ukraine, urban district of Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. It lies within the eponymous historical neighborhood, while also including some other historical areas. The Pechersk ( uk, Печерськ, ) neighborhood is located on the hills adjoining the right bank of the Dnieper. These two geographical entities are often confused with each other. Verkhovna Rada Building
The Verkhovna Rada building ( uk, Будинок Верховної Ради, romanized: ''Budynok Verkhovnoi Rady'') is located in the center of Kyiv, the Pecherskyi District. The building is located at the Constitution Square. It is the place where the Ukrainian parliament (Verkhovna Rada) meets for all regular and ceremonial sessions. The building was erected between 1936–38 to a design by Volodymyr Zabolotnyi in the neo-classical Ukrainian architectural style. Zabolotny was awarded the State Prize for that project in 1940 and was appointed the chief architect of the city. Mariinskyi Park ( uk, Маріїнський парк, ''Mariyins'kyi park'') is a park located in Pechersk neighborhood in front of the Supreme Council of Ukraine ( Constitution Square), Hrushevsky Street, and Park Road. The park is also a Soviet necropolis. The park is recognized as part of the Nature Preservation Fund of Ukraine, yet its official listing is not known.
