Constantin Dan Vasiliu
Constantin Dan Vasiliu (15 February 1951 – 6 November 2020) was a Romanian politician. Career He was born in Bârlad, Romania, and was the son of Mihai (Melu) Vasiliu and of Lucia Vasiliu (née Perida). He studied economics at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași. After graduation, he worked at the Tepro Company in Iași where he eventually was promoted to Commercial Director of the Company. After 1989, Constantin Dan Vasiliu entered politics. In 1992, he was elected senator for the National Salvation Front; in this capacity, he was vice president of the Senate of Romania from 1994 to 1996. Re-elected in 1996 on the lists of the Democratic Party, he was chairman of the parliamentary group of the Democratic Party. From 1996 to 2000 he was also secretary of the senate's "Budget, Finance and Banking Commission". In 2000 he was re-elected vice president of the Senate. Bârlad
Bârlad () is a city in Vaslui County, Romania. It lies on the banks of the river Bârlad, which waters the high plains of Western Moldavia. At Bârlad the railway from Iași diverges, one branch skirting the river Siret, the other skirting the Prut; both reunite at Galați. Along with a maze of narrow and winding streets, Bârlad features several notable modern buildings, including the hospital administered by the Saint Spiridion Foundation of Iași. In the vicinity of the city are the ruins of a Roman camp. The city is the birthplace of Romanian ''Domnitor'' (Ruler) and diplomat Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Etymology Scholars continue to debate the origin of the city's name. Iași County () is a county (județ) of Romania, in Western Moldavia, with the administrative seat at Iași. It is the most populous county in Romania, after the Municipality of Bucharest (which has the same administrative level as that of a county). Geography This county has a total area of 5,476 km2. The Democratic Liberal Party ( ro, Partidul Democrat-Liberal, PDL) was a liberal-conservative political party in Romania. The party was formed on 15 December 2007, when the Democratic Party (PD) merged with the Liberal Democratic Party (PLD). On 17 November 2014 the PDL officially merged into the National Liberal Party (PNL), ceasing to exist. The National Salvation Front ( ro, Frontul Salvării Naționale, FSN) was the most important political organization formed during the Romanian Revolution in December 1989, which became the governing body of Romania in the first weeks after the collapse of the totalitarian communist regime. It subsequently became a political party, the largest post-communist party, and won the 1990 election with 66% of the national vote, under the leadership of then-President Ion Iliescu, who was elected with 85% of the vote.
