''Constance Bennett Calls on You'' is an American old-time radio talk show. It was broadcast on ABC May 21, 1945 - March 15, 1946. Beginning November 20, 1945, it was also carried on CJBC in Toronto, Canada. The program was also known as ''The Constance Bennett Show''. Format ''Constance Bennett Calls on You'' featured discussion of topics in which women were interested — from new hats to families to world events. A preview article in the trade publication ''Billboard'' said, "She'll tell about the people she meets, the places she goes and the things she does." Fridays on the program were devoted to answering letters mailed in by listeners. The show also had a "woman of the week" feature. In conjunction with the weekly recognition, the Gruen Watch Co. designed a new model watch named after Bennett and awarded one of them to each "woman of the week". Constance Campbell Bennett (October 22, 1904 – July 24, 1965) was an American stage, film, radio, and television actress and producer. She was a major Hollywood star during the 1920s and 1930s; during the early 1930s, she was the highest-paid actress in Hollywood. George Ansbro (January 14, 1915 – November 5, 2011) was a radio announcer for NBC and ABC for six decades, working with soap operas, big bands, quiz shows and other programs. The Golden Age of Radio, also known as the old-time radio (OTR) era, was an era of radio in the United States where it was the dominant electronic home entertainment medium. It began with the birth of commercial radio broadcasting in the early 1920s and lasted through the 1950s, when television gradually superseded radio as the medium of choice for scripted programming, variety and dramatic shows. CJBC is a Canadian Class A clear-channel station, which broadcasts at 860 AM in Toronto, Ontario. It is the city's affiliate of the Ici Radio-Canada Première network. CJBC's studios are located at the Canadian Broadcasting Centre, while its transmitter is located in Hornby. History The station was originally launched in 1925 as CKNC on 840 AM, owned by the Canadian National Carbon Company. In January 1927, the station moved to 690 kHz, returning to 840 kHz a month later. The station then moved to 580 in 1928, and to 1030 kHz in 1931.
