Conservation Districts (Manitoba)
The Manitoba Watershed District Program is a provincial-municipal partnership directed to the conservation and management of water and soil resources. There are 14 watershed districts including more than 130 municipalities covering almost all of the agricultural areas of Manitoba, Canada. The Province provides substantial funding and general guidance but the programs are developed and administered locally. The districts spend more than $8 million each year on a wide variety of conservation programs. Whitemud Watershed District The Whitemud Watershed District created in 1972 was the first district formed in Manitoba. The district covers about in south central Manitoba. It includes all or portions of 15 rural municipalities and three towns. It includes all the area that drains into the Whitemud River. The Rural Municipality of Wallace is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on December 22, 1883. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the RM of Woodworth and the Village of Elkhorn to form the Rural Municipality of Wallace – Woodworth. Rural Municipality Of Cameron
The Rural Municipality of Cameron is a former rural municipality (RM) in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It was originally incorporated as a rural municipality on November 16, 1896. It ceased on January 1, 2015 as a result of its provincially mandated amalgamation with the RM of Whitewater and the Town of Hartney to form the Municipality of Grassland. The RM was located southwest of Brandon and was home to about 500 people. It was named for John Donald Cameron, the Attorney General of Manitoba at the time. Crystal City, Manitoba
Crystal City is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district in the Municipality of Louise within the Canadian province of Manitoba. It held village status prior to January 1, 2015. It is located on Highway 3, 16 kilometres north of the Canada–United States border and 200 kilometres southwest of Winnipeg. In summer 1878, Thomas Greenway, who would later serve in the Manitoba Legislature and become Premier of Manitoba, traveled to the region. During the following winter, he organized the Rock Lake Colonization Co. In summer 1879, the party of eight men arrived at Crystal Creek. By 1882, Crystal City was a substantial town. The earliest newspaper reference is for the land development that year. The community was moved near the railway, which is no longer in use, for more attraction. Pilot Mound, Manitoba
Pilot Mound is an unincorporated community recognized as a local urban district that also once held town status in the Canadian province of Manitoba. It is located within the Municipality of Louise, approximately 60 km west of the City of Morden. Geography Climate History Pilot Mound takes its name from a mound of shale that rises above the landscape. The "old mound" as it's called served as a pilot for early fur traders, settlers and explorers. Originally settled in 1878, Pilot Mound moved to its present location in 1885 to get closer to the Canadian Pacific Railway line that moved through the area. Notable landmarks in the Pilot Mound area include the stone bank vault, used to store land titles documents. A Manitoba Pool Elevator stood in Pilot Mound and was in operation from 1957 until 2000, when it was closed down by Agricore. The building was later demolished in 2003.
