Conrad James Poole (born 12 February 1967) is a South African politician who is currently serving as the Mayor of the Drakenstein Local Municipality. He previously served as the Deputy Mayor of Drakenstein. He is a member of the Democratic Alliance. Early life and education Conrad James Poole was born on 12 February 1967 in Paarl. The Drakenstein Municipal Council is the elected unicameral legislature of the Drakenstein Local Municipality in Paarl, Western Cape, South Africa. The municipal council consists of sixty-five members elected by mixed-member proportional representation. Thirty-three councillors are elected by first-past-the-post voting in thirty-three wards, while the remaining thirty-two are chosen from party lists so that the total number of party representatives is proportional to the number of votes received. Gesina Maria Magdalena "Gesie" van Deventer (born 24 September 1958) is a South African politician, farmer and advocate who has served as the Executive Mayor of the Stellenbosch Local Municipality since 2016. A member of the Democratic Alliance, she previously served as the Executive Mayor of the neighbouring Drakenstein Local Municipality from 2011 to 2016. Early life and career Van Deventer was born on 24 September 1958 in Vanrhynsdorp in the former Cape Province (now known as the Western Cape). She started working at a young age to support her family. Paarl
Paarl (; Afrikaans: ; derived from ''Parel'', meaning "pearl" in Dutch) is a town with 112,045 inhabitants in the Western Cape province of South Africa. 2021 South African Municipal Elections
The 2021 South African municipal elections were held on 1 November 2021, to elect councils for all district, metropolitan and local municipalities in each of the country's nine provinces. It is the sixth municipal election held in South Africa since the end of apartheid in 1994, held every five years. The previous municipal elections were held in 2016. On 21 April 2021, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the elections will be held on Wednesday, 27 October 2021.
