Conquistador (Procol Harum Song)
"Conquistador" is a song by the English rock band Procol Harum. Written by Gary Brooker and Keith Reid, it originally appeared on the band's 1967 self-titled debut album. It was later released as a single from the band's 1972 live album '' Procol Harum Live: In Concert with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra''. It is one of the band's most famous and popular songs and their third Top 40 hit on the U.S. '' Billboard'' Hot 100 (after 1967's "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and " Homburg"), peaking at number 16. Procol Harum () were an English rock music, rock band formed in Southend-on-Sea, Essex in 1967. Their best-known recording is the 1967 hit single "A Whiter Shade of Pale", one of the few singles to have List of best-selling singles, sold over 10 million copies. Conquistadors (, ) or conquistadores (, ; meaning 'conquerors') were the explorer-soldiers of the Spanish and Portuguese Empires of the 15th and 16th centuries. Dave Ball (musician)
David J. Ball (30 March 1950 – 1 April 2015) was an English guitar player. Career In April 1971, he left Big Bertha and joined Procol Harum after he saw an advertisement in ''Melody Maker''. He replaced Robin Trower, who had left the group to form his own band. He can be heard on the group's live album, ''Procol Harum Live with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra'', but left the group during the recording sessions for their 1973 album ''Grand Hotel'', in September 1972. He then formed the group Bedlam with his brother Dennis and drummer Cozy Powell, who released an album on Chrysalis Records, but the group disbanded after a brief period. He also recorded with Long John Baldry on Baldry's 1973 album ''Good to Be Alive''. He also played in the Nickey Barclay Band in London in the 1980s. David Knights
David Knights (born David John Knights, 28 June 1945, Islington, North London) is a British musician who was the original bass guitarist in the band Procol Harum. He played bass on the hit single "A Whiter Shade of Pale". He was in the band long enough to play on their first three albums. He departed in 1969, to be replaced by Chris Copping. When he was in Procol Harum he used a Gibson EB-0 bass. He also performed with a band named Ruby, that released one album before disbanding. He also produced a single for Mickey Jupp's Legend group. He is fairly inactive in the music industry these days. Matthew Charles Fisher (born 7 March 1946) is an English musician, songwriter and record producer. He is best known for his longtime association with the rock band Procol Harum, which included playing the Hammond organ on the 1967 single "A Whiter Shade of Pale", for which he subsequently won a songwriting credit. In his later life he became a computer programming, computer programmer, having qualified from University of Cambridge, Cambridge University. Robin Trower
Robin Leonard Trower (born 9 March 1945) is an English rock guitarist who achieved success with Procol Harum throughout 1967–1971, and then again as the bandleader of his own power trio known as the Robin Trower Band. Biography Robin Trower was born in Catford, London, England, and grew up in Southend-on-Sea, Essex. In 1962, he formed a band that became the Paramounts, later including Westcliff High School pupil Gary Brooker. The Paramounts disbanded in 1966 to pursue individual projects. During this time, Trower created a local three-piece band called the Jam (not to be confused with The Jam, the later group with Paul Weller). Trower then joined Brooker's new band Procol Harum following the success of their debut single "A Whiter Shade of Pale" in 1967, remaining with them until 1971 and appearing on the group's first five albums. Mariachi
Mariachi (, , ) is a genre of regional Mexican music that dates back to at least the 18th century, evolving over time in the countryside of various regions of western Mexico. The usual mariachi group today consists of as many as eight violins, two trumpets and at least one guitar, including a high-pitched vihuela and an acoustic bass guitar called a guitarrón, and all players taking turns singing lead and doing backup vocals. From the 19th to 20th century, migrations from rural areas into Guadalajara, along with the Mexican government's cultural promotion gradually re-labeled it as ''son'' style, with its alternative name of ''mariachi'' becoming used for the 'urban' form. In music, a coda () (Italian for "tail", plural ''code'') is a passage that brings a piece (or a movement) to an end. It may be as simple as a few measures, or as complex as an entire section.
