Lloyd Hillyard Conover (June 13, 1923 – March 11, 2017) was an American chemist and the inventor of tetracycline. For this invention, he was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame. Richard Field Conover
Richard Field Conover (November 20, 1858 – June 5, 1930) was an American tennis player, lawyer and real estate manager. Life Conover was born in South Amboy, New Jersey, the son of Francis Stevens Conover and Helen Stockton Field. He was a grandson of Richard Stockton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. As a tennis player, Conover took part in the first stagings of the US Championships in between 1881 and 1884. In 1883 he reached the semifinals which he lost to James Dwight. After graduating from Princeton University and Columbia Law School, he practiced law at Newark for a short while before moving to Texas where he engaged in ranching. Conover there met his wife, Cornelia Fitzhugh, whom he married on September 11, 1895. Mark Conover
Mark Robert Conover (May 28, 1960 – April 6, 2022) was an American long distance runner and coach. He was born in Contra Costa County, California. He is most famous for his unexpected strategic victory at the 1988 United States Olympic Trials marathon, qualifying him for the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, South Korea, where he was a member of the U.S. Team. The winning time of 2:12:26 at the Olympic trials was his personal best. Conover showed his potential running for Miramonte High School in Orinda, California, finishing fifth at the CIF California State Meet in the 2 mile behind Jeff Nelson just a year before Nelson would set the record in the event which would hold for almost 30 years. He then went on to Humboldt State University, where he became the 1981 NCAA Division II Cross Country Champion. Larner Somers Gardner Conover (May 21, 1894 – August 4, 1945) was a professional American football player who played during the early years of the National Football League (NFL). After attending high school in Atlantic City, New Jersey, Conover attended Penn State University, where he served as the team's captain in 1917. Conover was the head basketball coach at Clemson for the 1920–21 season. Nicknamed "The Atlantic City Airedale", Conovar made his professional debut in the NFL in 1921 with the Canton Bulldogs. Conover played in the league for four years, playing for the Cleveland Bulldogs, Frankford Yellow Jackets and Canton. In 1922, Conover signed on to play with the then-independent, Pottsville Maroons. Henry Boardman Conover (January 18, 1892 – May 5, 1950) was an American soldier, salesman, and amateur ornithologist. Conover was born in Chicago, the son of Charles Hopkins Conover and his wife Delia Louise Boardman. He attended The Hill School and then studied at the Sheffield Scientific School in Yale. He had an interest in natural history from an early age, and collected bird specimens. In 1920, he traveled to Venezuela with Wilfred Hudson Osgood on a collecting trip for the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago. The trip inspired him to leave business and devote himself to ornithology, and they returned to South America in 1922, visiting Chile and Argentina. In 1926, Conover traveled to East Africa.
